Sectional sleeper bed vs murphy bed recommendations for every night use

Questbest! You have a habit of posting and walking away - or not giving more input!

If you genuinely want the advice and want it to best fit your needs/situation sometimes you have to give more feedback along the way - it’s part of the CC dance!!!

Those are swanky Murphy beds! How much do they cost?

Judging by the Costco prices, a good wall bed without a matters would cost $2K plus; possibly way upwards of $2K. Not a cheap piece, for sure.

Bunsen- I laughed at your post. Something similar happened to me many years ago at Opryland Hotel. I was there on business, walked into my hotel room and could NOT find the bed! It looked like a meeting room! Sofa, large table, kitchenette… I think I might have called down to the front desk and said, “Um, I’m missing something!” As you said, there were shelved and you pulled on something and down came the bed!

My brother has a sleeper sofa that has an inflatable mattress for sleeping. He sleeps on it every night. I put an inflatable mattress on top of my sleeper sofa mattress when we have guests using the sleeper sofa. It’s much better than the sleeper sofa. Maybe if you can find one of these, it could work for you.

I think the murphy bed/ sofa combos in BB’s and my posts ( from Resource Furniture) are very very expensive (imported from Italy) but I think there are American companies doing knock-offs. For me, a big consideration wiuld be the depth of the unit. An extra foot can have a big effect in a small space

Lol, MOfWC! Apparently, that room we stayed in was originally equipped with a sleeper sofa and was a part of a larger suite. By installing the Murphy option and making a completely separate access, the hotel figured out a way of renting it as a separate room.

We slept in a murphy bed for 5+ years. This murphy bed cabinet was 10K (purchased by my ex, a story in itself), but the actual bed mechanism was not that expensive. Murphy bed is as comfortable as the mattress you buy. On the other hand, sofa bed is as comfortable as the mechanism (a lot of firm support), and the mattress also needs to be thick enough. The only sofa bed I ever liked was made by Carlyle Sofa in NYC.

As I get older, I need very comfortable bed, otherwise I get backache and such. I don’t think I would make a sofa bed my permanent bed. My kids will not sleep in a sofa bed at hotels. They insist on having roll away beds instead.

I saw this on Houzz and thought of this thread:

The nice thing about this concept is that hubby can go to bed, and you can stay up reading/watching Netflix on the sofa!

Thank you for all of the responses! I have checked all of your ideas and think I like the American Leather sofas best. They seem comfortable for sitting as well as sleeping, Definitely pricey but, hopefully, worth it in the long run.

abasket…I do not intend to make it a “habit of posting and walking away,” as you have attested. My mother who lives with me has frequent hospitalizations and acute medical issues which does not allow me the time to check back on CC frequently!

Quest…could you answer some of the questions?

  1. Is this for your only bedroom?
  2. Is this a permanent sleeping arrangement?
  3. Are you buying a home, or renting?
  4. What is your budget?
  5. Will there ever be times when one person wants to sleep and the other wants to sit on the couch?
  6. Is this sleeper for your bedroom or the main living space.

I’m sure your hands are full with your mother Questbest - she is lucky to have you to take care of her.

Still, you will get much better advice with more details. If you don’t think you can check back often, perhaps give LOTS of details in the original post!
