My D has exact same criteria and we are thrilled with her choices so far. Falk (applied ED but they only take 75 kids! Still waiting to hear]. Oregon, UMass, Indiana, Ohio State And UConn are the ones we chose to apply to and she’s been accepted to most. Good luck!!!
“Not sure of Jewish culture but OU (Ohio University) had one of the longest running sport management programs, I believe. Maybe graduate program only? Might want to check it out.”
OU checks a lot of your boxes concerning size, academic fit and major. Here is a bit of the information I can find concerning Jewish life.
Sports management and football?
I immediately think of University of Oregon - Lundquist
A national leader in both and easily competes with your definition - Syracuse in both.
Big time Pac 12, Div I sports and football team is currently #10 in the country and students and fans pack the stadium every game.
Big time sports research, sports marketing, and sports management offerings.
Superb job placement with anything to do with sports.
Big time support from Nike.
Hillel ranks the Ducks Top 60 Jewish school. Check out on website
11% of grads are Jewish
UG enrollment 19,000. Campus is compact.
Feels more like a mid-size university than a big campus.
@raetapp mentioned Indiana University and I second that behind Oregon.
Although, the campus is far larger than Oregon, 12% of Indiana UGs are Jewish, so again Top 60 in Hillel.
Big 10 football is fantastic and IU is going to the Gator Bowl this year, so getting much better, but traditionally IU is more like Syracuse in football than Oregon. IU excels in baseball, swimming, soccer and women’s basketball, so the Hoosiers are into their sports, but what overshadows them all on campus is always men’s basketball.
A basketball game at Assembly Hall takes a back seat to no university. Even great opposing coaches (Duke, UNC, etc), players, and national tv announcers rave about the environment. That said, if football is your D’s thing over basketball, IU will have much more of a gameday football environment (and growing as they become more successful) than almost all non-Power 5 conference Div1 schools and more than almost every Div 2 or Div 3 school. Just not Oregon level.
IU’s Kelley Business school is Top 10 in every undergrad business ranking I’ve seen for decades.
Graduate, Mark Cuban donates a lot to IU’s sports research facilities.
Kelley is not that easy to get into as a direct admit though.
Where IU does not meet your criteria is mid-size, although Syracuse is pretty big in my opinion. It is a big campus and I am in the camp that Honors Colleges do not make a big campus mid-size or small.
However, Bloomington is fantastic and the quintessential college town. If you haven’t visited and are thinking two words - flat and corn, that is actually north of Bloomington. Monroe County more resembles the rolling hills and deciduous forests of Kentucky (my D says, like Pennsylvania).
