Self sudying AP Biology in 9th grade

@Camasite I agree. At my school, Honors Biology learned material in a completely different order, so taking the AP class and Honors class at the same time would likely be very confusing.

And remember, this parent wants the student to self study. Not at call the same as taking a course.

She’s now come up with a different plan that is much more realistic. Thank you for your feedback.

Thank you all for your feedback! She now has changed her plans about taking AP Bio, which are more realistic. I’m not seeking any further responses/feedback to this question.

Good luck!

In our district, the GT kids take bio in 8th grade, chem honors in 9th and can choose AP bio in 10th. I believe kids have to have had both bio and chem before taking AP Bio. I am surprised by those who say that Bio and AP bio are not that different.

Why can’t she do AP bio self-study next summer if she really wants to? It is hard to find things for kids that age to do in the summer (too old for a lot of camps and too young for a job).

Also, in-person school may well start at some point this year along with in-person ECs. Will she still want to self-study if that happens?
