Lower division courses are frosh / soph level courses, while upper division courses are junior/senior level courses. All community college courses are lower division. Four year schools usually have a course numbering system that classifies courses as lower / upper division or frosh / soph / junior / senior level.
From that, you should be able to tell which courses are lower or upper division and how many units of each you have.
