September 2010 ACT Science Discussion

gordonfreeman, i COMPLETELY concur. the irony of the science section amazes me…i am in a specific program in my high school for science and had completed AP bio, chem, physics when i took the exam. science has always by far been my best subject…and which part of the exam do i always score the lowest? science.

who else believes this portion of the exam is completely unnecessary? i swear, if we had maybe even five minutes more, a lot of us could easily get a perfect score. the questions themselves are really straightforward and easy, but the timing is such a useless killer…

i’m sorry to sound like a whiner, but it bothers me that i can do well in the important parts (english, writing, and math) but then science lowers my composite score

well stated, ashley. major kudos to your intelligence =)

Thanks on the Tt and tt question:)
I got it righttt :stuck_out_tongue:
Wooot.

^ That was on the reading section.

Can we stop beating this question to the death ?

I didn’t have time to do like 7 questions. =(

The science section should be removed. It does NOT accurately reflect the skills learned in high school science classes. As an achievement test, the ACT does a pretty bad job at making that section based on achievement. It’s more reading comprehension than science.

Science is a good test. Definitely doesn’t work within the “achievement” based test motto, but nothing is wrong with it. It helps you deduce and reason information from complicated graphs and such… in that aspect it’s kind of like the SAT lol.

^what’s funny is that the former person thinks he/she did bad on the science portion and the latter thinks he/she did good on the science portion.

Nah I rushed through and probably did poorly because of mistakes.

Science and reading are hard to improve. If I were bad at them I’d hate them too lol. In fact, I hate reading :D

Can someone please explain which Trial was the saturated water vapor one (or something like that)? That was one of the few questions I had to skip and come back to.

^trial 6 since it indicated it within parantheses next to the trial in the chart

^ Oh, do you remember what all the choices (trial #s) were?

Or if Trial 6 was Choice B/G by any chance? I remember choosing Choice B/G…

uh they were 1,4,6,7

if i rmemeber correctly

i think trial 4 was choice B.

im not sure tho

Dang, I guess I chose 4 then… :(

0% ftw!!!

Wait so the saturation question wasn’t the 100% one?

And do u guys remember—why did they use mesh bags for the tree litter passage?

was one awnser 100%?

@UVA yes, one of the genome questions was 100%

Trail 6 was the correct answer. 1 and 4 were in the same experiment (1) and 6 (experiment 2) was the only trail that had an effect on the humidity. Both other experiments clearly said that they were tested in dry states.
