***September 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

I’ve taken it twice before this test. Got a 33 both times. Was very sad. My super score is a 34 right now. I want to get my composite up to a 35-36 with this test.

@OptimisticStudent2017
What makes you say you can get a 35 and not a 34?
Have you gotten perfection on ur practice tests?

@whatsamania I’ve done about 10-15 whole books this summer. From Barron’s to the 5lb ACT book, I’ve done about every test I could online and in the books. I’ve gotten several 36s and far more 35s than 34s on practice tests. It’s the Reading that always finds a way to drag my composite score down.

Is the writing out of 12 now?

Yes

@OptimisticStudent2017
Oh my gosh then you definetly have the right to say you will get a 35-36.
As for me, I only did about 10 practice tests this summer. My last 5 were 33, 34, 35, 34, 35. Finishing on a 35 was nice before i took it for real on sept 10. Think Im good enough for a 34. We will see

@whatsamania Best of luck to you and to everyone who took the test. Now we wait…

Does a college value a 35, 36 more than a 34? Some say 34+ is the same as 35 36

@whatsamania If 2 equally qualified applicants have a 34 and a 35, they will probably take the 35er, but a 34 is still good enough to get into any college.

No way. Since 36s are rarer than 35s and 34s, those are sought more by selective schools. It also gives some leverage against competition. Not many people can say they aced a college entrance, national standardized test.

My practice tests range from 27 to 31 so Im really hoping for a 30

And that’s where extracurriculars and volunteer hours come in :slight_smile:

@whatsamania Of course a 36 is better than a 35 or 34, However there is not that much difference between the 3 for colleges. If you get a 34 or above your test score part of applications will be fine. You should than concentrate on essays,extracurriculars,etc.

30 minutes!

Super anxious right now, since I am a senior planning for ED

30 minutes!

I’m applying for New York University (dream school) Early Decision, so I really want a 30. A 31 would be awesome but unlikely.

I really need to get a 34+ to solidify my chances at a BS/MD program

If I got a 29, I would be fine with that.
