For everyone who got a 36-- I’ve heard that if you get a 36, they make you re-test to make sure you didn’t cheat or something… is this true? I don’t think that I got a 36 but I’ve always been curious.
@lnicole Nope - just got a 36 on sep ACT, no retaking for me.
@Hellofagal My daughter had the same thing happen and I’ve seen a lot of comments saying the same. She raised math by 3 points, scored 36 on reading (which is basically what science is, I’ve been told) and raised English by 3 points. Last time she scored a 29 with lowest goal being 30. She upped 6 total points in 2 parts combined but dropped 6 in science so she had the same composite.
If numerous others weren’t saying the same thing I would think maybe she got tired or something but I am not convinced that is the case.
I am curious as to where you live? I saw someone else saying they were in Florida. I am in Mobile, AL. I’m curious to see if most people with the science issue is in the Southeast.
HAVE YOU SEEN THE NEW POLICY ON RESCORING?? I was unsure of how things worked so I googled and found out they just recently changed the policy on rescoring. It doesn’t sound good.
Are the scores in in 45 mins???
@Zorba5398 Not today. It is in every Wednesday and Friday
@FueFueFue wouldn’t Wednesday still count as midnight central time? Anxious to receive my score!
@navyblue18 I’m not sure; you could be right. Only thing that I know is that it is coming out every Wednesday and Friday.
I got almost perfect scores in all my other sections but science dropped! I heard that ACT does not rescore multiple choice sections starting this test and I’m panicking because I am not sure if I should retake ACT or not. The science section really dragged my composite down!
Any advice? I am a senior so I have limited chances to retake so should I??
What time is for the next batch?
@Qyndox Sad to hear that :(, but don’t worry too much. If your college application is due December and January, I think that you still have one more chance.
In addition, many colleges accept superscore, so unless you are applying to some colleges that doesn’t accept superscore, you will be fine.
I live in Florida, and my daughter felt as if she didn’t miss a single question on the science and was more confident about having done well on the science than she was the reading. She scored a 36 on English, a 35 on reading, and a 29 on the science section. I, too, have seen many others post regarding the unusual pattern of science scores on this September 2016 ACT administration. Does anyone know whether something can be done to have ACT look into this score discrepancy? Also, since you mentioned the southeast region in particular, do you know if the tests in this area are scored differently from those in other areas?
@FLTiger42 the scores are scored on a national curve
There is nothing wrong with the Science. Your daughter probably made a bunch of careless mistakes. The Science scale was probably very harsh because it was ridiculously easy.
It’s exactly what happened in June 2016. On that test, 3 mistakes dropped you to S31. On most Sciences, 3 mistakes drops you to S34. S33 at most.
Nothing wrong with the Science.
@mmk2015 @FLTiger42 No the curves weren’t that harsh this test. I can base it on what people have been listing for their scores on multiple threads. Based on what I’ve seen, the curve was
-1 35
-2 34
-3 33
-4 31
-5 30
-6 29
-7 28
I am also baffled by this situation as I was extremely confident I did not miss any more than two on the science section but ended up with a 28. I don’t see myself making five careless errors. The science section ended up dragging down my score as well
^You can’t base the scale on what students “felt” they got right and wrong. That’s exactly what happened after the June 2016 test. Many wondered what went wrong.
Then the scales were released. No more wondering. Students made mistakes on a harsh scale.
Unfortunately the Sept scales will not be released, so you won’t see where you went wrong.
Has anyone gotten their scores for today yet?
I just chatted with someone again. Release dates are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Here is my question though. I signed my D up for October just in case. Now I realize that it won’t make a difference because score reports may end up coming out after the Dec. 1st score deadline for EA. Thoughts?
No score today. Next batch Friday. So frustrating. Praying for good news Friday morning.
Scores are done posting for the day according to ACT twitter.
My D: Reading 32, Science 24! Sure she made some careless mistakes but subscore way out of whack. Time to fix in advance of Oct ACT.
