@jjlundy I believe they will start releasing scores Tues 9/20.
do you guys think there will be a generous English and science curve?
English: Seemed easier than the June ACT. I think I did well.
Math: Harder than the June ACT, but it was still manageable.
Reading: Easy but super tight for time. I had to guess on most of the questions in the last passage. It was a science passage, so the answers weren’t so obvious.
Science: I thought it went very well for me besides a couple of questions. Didn’t have enough time to answer one question.
Any thoughts on the curve for math and reading?
I thought reading was very tough. What do guys think -4 is? 31? I think science will -1=34
I took the international version of the test. My English section had grammar mistakes in the parts of the sentence that weren’t being tested
Can anyone predict?
E: -5 (worst case)
M: -2
R: -5
S: -2/3
I agree, more literary narrative. It didn’t seem like the normal prose fiction that’s used as the first passage.
The name for the first Reading Passage alternates from test to test. Not sure why, but it’s pretty much the same thing.
April 2015: Literary Narrative.
June 2015: Literary Narrative.
Dec 2015: Prose Fiction.
April 2016: Literary Narrative.
June 2016: Prose Fiction.
Sept 2016: Literary Narrative.
@indy101 Here are my predictions for you based off previous ACT exams:
E: 33
M: 35
R: 32
S: 34-35
Hey guys how do you think the math curve will be like? I guessed on two.
What did you guys think of science? I was really confident on 2/3 of it then the last passage really messed me up. I’ve seen people on here and reddit say they all thought it was easy unlike me so will it be a harsh curve? I have seen curves like -1=34… is that common? What is a typical science curve like at the top end?
Chance me guys:
Eng: wc:-4 bc:0
Math: wc:-3 bc:-1
Reading: wc:-1 bc:0
Science: don’t think I missed any on this section at all.
Overall the test was harder than tests from the past.
I thought English and Math were harder, than previous tests.
Reading and Science felt about the same.
Would be happy with a 35, and feel like I had died and gone to heaven with a 36.
This is my last chance, taken it twice before, because I am applying early action to Harvard.
I took it for the first time and I thought overall it was easier than a lot of the practice tests I’ve taken:
E- Flew through it usually I get between -1 to -4
M- A couple tricky questions, I already know I got -2 but I’m expecting around -5 (I’m notorious for my careless mistakes)
R- Again, a couple tricky ones but I had more time than usual left over so I’d guess -4
S- I was pretty fine until the last passage, I know I got -1 there but probably a -4 (careless mistakes)
W- I also thought the essay was pretty bland, the topic was just so one-dimensional that I felt like I kept repeating the same arguments.
****Also @ anyone who is reading this in the future or who has taken it today but is kind of freaked out, I wouldn’t worry about how other people find the test here because it’s so largely based on personal strengths and preferences. Not to say that’s the case for everything because patterns here can show a really unanimous and important opinion, I just mean that the best way to base how you think you did/will do is to average your practice test scores and compare that to how hard/easy you thought the test was.
Today, I took the ACT.
English: Fairly easy, first passage was a bit confusing
Math: Overall easy, guessed on 1 question
Reading: Easy, passages were interesting and questions were straightforward
Science: Overall easy, but the last question was a bit confusing
Essay: Easy to create an argument
I was able to use my Ti-nspire CX with no problems, and I had two watches on me. Going into the test I was worried, but looking back, it was pretty easy, I just used all the time I was given.
@Mish00 Which form did you get?? Just wondering because my general feeling of the test was pretty much the same. I thought the first passage in English was more confusing than previous tests, and I found the reading passages very interesting, they were fun to read!
@Mish00 TI-nspire CX on ACT? I feel like that’s not allowed haha. My proctor would have flipped, but who knows.
@j_anonymous Lol, the rulebook shows that the CX is allowed to be used, but the proctor has the right to take it away if they suspect you’re cheating. My mom even made me bring the printed calculator policy: just in case the proctor didn’t allow it.
So I didn’t pace myself during Math and ended up guessing for 6 questions…
English/Reading/Writing were okay for me though.
@Zorba5398 Actually, the ACT has consistently thrown Literary Narrative passages to the examinees. The company changed “Prose Fiction” and made it “Literary Narrative.” It’s still the only section among the 4 sections that is fictional, however (i mean sometimes Humanities can be fictional but generally speaking). The same concepts that have been used in Prose are being used in Literary Narrative.
English - 34-35
Math - For sure one wrong. 33-35
Reading - For sure minus zero. 36
Science - 34-36 (Scored 36 in April)
Worst case: 34 (I just hope)
Best case: 36 (Not likely)
I got a 33 in April hoping for at least 34.
Hopefully some international scores come out on Sep 20.
