***September 2016 ACT Discussion Thread***

@Doctorbellam I’m applying EA to lots of schools and my SATs are good enough so I’m not too worried. Just wanted to try the ACT to see if I was naturally better at it. Its funny how confident I felt about my score being high(34+) until the last two science passages, and now I can’t stop thinking of stuff I might have gotten wrong on every section.

@Doctorbellam 5 minutes left with 2 passages?

Try limiting yourself to 5 minutes a passage, be it 6 passages or 7.

Also, speaking of science passage count, is 6 passages now the standard? Because I’m reading other posts here that say they’ve encountered 7 passages…

@JudgeHolden

Pretty sure it is still 7.

@hhjjlala All recent papers indicate 6 passages, older ones 7. What was it like in your most recent experience?

@JudgeHolden

I didn’t count, but pretty sure it was seven.

Yeah, there are seven passages on the Science Test.
Hey guys, can you predict my score:

Section : Incorrect Responses

English : 0 to -2
Mathematics : -1
Reading : -4
Science : 0 or -1

@Denouement
English-35 wc, 36 bc
Math- 35 wc, 36 bc
Reading- 32
Science-35 wc, 36 bc

@Denouement

English: wc 34,bc 36
Math: wc 35, bc 36
Reading: wc 30, bc:32
Science: wc 34, bc 36

@ObitoSigma To tackle questions like those, just solve the system of equations regularly and then see which matrix’s elements are equal to the solutions of the system.

The ACT has given a wide range of dates when the scores could be out (September 20, 2016–November 4, 2016). Are scores usually posted closer to the beginning or the end of this range?I’m applying early to a college so my materials have to be in by November 1 and I just want to make sure my scores will be in on time.

Scores usually come out on the earliest date given- September 20th. Check the website on this day. My son has taken the test a few times and it has always been ready on the first day- but there are always exceptions, of course.

Internationals seem to get their scores a week after the first batch of scores. I might be wrong, but I think they check for cheating.

September 20th seems awfully early, but that would be awesome. The PSAT put a bad taste in my mouth, as did taking the first administration of the new SAT. Lol.

Any internationals do the test today?

Just found this thread, I’m incredibly anxious for the ACTs. Took them for the first time. I think I nailed the Reading, Writing, and Science section, but I ran out of time and guessed on maybe 8 of the Math questions. I don’t really know much about how the grading works, but hopefully that won’t kill my score.

This past ACT was my first time, and it went better than I expected. In my opinion, it was much better than the SAT.

English- the definition of average, neither difficult nor easy. The idioms were a pain but nothing crazy went down here.
Math- harder than average, especially with the matrices and ellipse questions. The only thing that can hold anyone back here is stupid mistakes.
Reading- Questions were average, but I agree with everyone else that time was a big issue. A lot of the questions required finding some random line in the middle of the passage, which was annoying.
Science- easier than average. Curve will probably be one of those where -1 is already a 34. Aside from 2-3 questions, it was easy, which does not bode well for the curve.

Also I have a question: Do most people receive their scores on the 20th, or is it a small batch of people?

Do we find out our scores at midnight on Monday?

Usually for me the scores have been out the 2nd Wednesday after every test. There was one time it took a whole 4 weeks but that might have been due to some error by the testing center.

@Doodleloodle It depends where you live. If you are on the East Coast, then 1 am Tuesday Morning. If West Coast, then 10 pm on Monday.
