I’m signed up. Could someone volunteer to come by my house and force me to follow through?
I scheduled a pickup to,orrow. I have 12 bags ready, which are crowding my DR and K
Today’s assignment is to pick one small place to declutter using the five questions: 1. Did I use it in the past year. 2. Will I use it in the coming year. 3.Would I buy it again today . 4. If it is broken is it worth fixing. 5. Would I pack it/unpack it for a move. If all are no - it goes.
Choose a drawer in your kitchen, a bin under the bed, or a cabinet in the bathroom. Take everything out and put each item through the five-question assessment. Keepers go back in the drawer, bin, or cabinet, and the tossers go into your boxes. What area are you doing today? I have a kitchen drawer that has gotten out of hand again.
I find this one harder since I’m a “maybe I will need it” person. Are you?
I decluttered by taking all the plans of finished I’d taken out of a too full drawer and rolling them up to store by year in the basement. Of course right now all the rolls are on the dining room table…
I cleaned out a jumbled kitchen drawer. Sorted and put things in baggies and moved them to the garage tool cabinet. These were small items (command hooks, chair leg floor protectors, etc.) that are used as needed but don’t need to be in the kitchen.
My office manager is going to a wedding, and staying in the very fancy hotel for the night. She mentioned she didn’t have the right luggage. So today I brought in a travel pro carry-on, never used, and another LLBean, but without wheels. She loved the Travelpro. I sold it to her for $20. I wasn’t using it, so I consider it a win-win.
Tomorrow the Breast CA group is picking up 14 bags of clothes, boots, pocketbooks, from me. What I did during the “hurricane” was clean closets.
You’re an overachiever, @bookworm, and are making the rest of us look bad!
Go, you!
I’m living vicariously this year. I do have a couple days next week when my H is out of town and I might try to tackle a few things. @psychmomma good idea about moving little items from the kitchen. That’s something doable.
The objective of the September Sweep is to take each little step together each day. By taking these little steps together you can accomplish a lot in a month. Don’t feel bad @doschicos , I did not get the whole drawer done today. Clients called
I’m no overachiever. I cancelled the trip north for a shower for future DIL cuz I didn’t know if I’d be able to return to Florida. I’m too old to sleep at the airport waiting for a flight. Then, to make matters worse, my son flew to that city to surprise me. With such guilt, I just had to be productive. So, everything on top shelves of closet and the backs came out.
Unfortunately, the Bahamas don’t want clothes. All the extra batteries I donated but I no longer have any blankets etc to offer.
The September Sweep is all about small steps. (See Bag a Week thread for the big projects). Today’s task is to identify your “monster zone” and remove just 3 things from it nd put them in your boxes (or trash). “The “monster zone” is September Sweep language—it basically just refers to your biggest cluttered mess at home.” Ours is definitely the basement. So today 3 things have to go from the basement. This is a daily task now for the rest of September.
As I sit here at work in my office and additional space down the hall I have for my work I’m thinking that some of these daily tasks could most certainly be done and apply to the work setting!
Agree @abasket it would work in an office. Today is a 20 minute declutter of the living room. And remove 3 things from the monster zone. https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/living-room-decluttering-list-september-sweep-36644832?utm_source=at_septembersweep2019&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=09122019 Ours is not too bad since last year. I am better at keeping it decluttered. But I bet I can still find things that need to go.
I say this in all the “clean up” threads but no matter what I do it will only make a “small” difference because over the last few years I have reduced and modified - it’s my husband who has all the stuff - and won’t participate in reduce and modify!!!
Don’t know if anyone is following this. Friday is a biggie meant to take all weekend. Take everything our of your closet and dresser. (Or a part of it, or a drawer if you can’t do all). Sort it by category. Then put back your favorite 2 or 3 from each pile. Continue with 2 or 3 from each pile until closet/dresser full. Git rid of what’s left since those are not your favorites. And take 3 more things out of the monster zone. I have to defer this one since we are out of town for the weekend. I guess I will tack it on the end.
I have already done today’s as it pertains to clothes. I don’t have many clothes and it did not take me long. I took a small bag of clothes out to the dumpster. We have a lot of homeless here in this city, so I just set it beside the dumpster. Less than a half hour later it was gone.
I do have 2 junk drawers in my dresser. I may go through those tomorrow.
I feel like it was only a month ago that we did the massive closet clean out but I guess it’s been a year. At least I have less to go through. I purged a lot last year and have only three off season containers to look through- and it’s about that time of year to see the shirts with sleeves again.
I’m a September Sweep failure so far! Hoping to catch up from day 1 over the weekend.
I love reading these even if I can’t do it that day. I don’t remember this one (today’s) from last year. I think I’m good on my drawers with this one since I Kondo’d last year - but my main closet could use a dose of reducing to “favorites”.
