I want to see a movie of it that shows all the little tiny robots at work.
NJTM, you may have to wait a while: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ozcki71QHYI
Per Wikipedia, English director Joe Cornish has been signed as director of a future film adaptation for Snow Crash, but the project doesn’t seem to be going anywhere: “Stephenson has described Cornish’s script as ‘amazing’, but also warned that there is no guarantee the film will ever be made.” https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snow_Crash
Interesting to see him speaking, Mary! I had been intending to look up some sort of video interview, because Stephenson looks so forbidding in his author photo on the book jacket.
Finished. Now I want to talk about it. I’ll have to see if I can get dh to hurry up and read it.
I have finished too. I didn’t like the far-future part quite as much as I liked the long first section, but it was fascinating too. Now that I’m done, I sort of miss the book. Probably this means I should read something else by Stephenson, but I have no idea what.
I really liked Snowcrash.
Did any of you read about the recent explosion of Falcon 9? Normally, it’s the type of news story I would breeze right by, but not this time: https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-switch/wp/2015/06/28/elon-musks-spacex-to-attempt-historic-landing/
No loss of life on the Falcon 9, but as I read, I kept thinking, “What a terrible waste of ‘vitamins’!”
Falcon 9 and SpaceX were also the subject of today’s editorial in the Chicago Tribune (which you might not be able to read–I think the Trib has a paywall, that’s what people tell me when I link articles ). But just in case:

I was surprised to see the 600+ pages Seveneves make the Huffington Post’s “beach read” list: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/07/02/beach-reads-summer_n_7699708.html
I am intentionally reading Seveneves slowly (mixing it in with other books) as I want to finish it nearer the Aug. 1 discussion date. I have to say though that I really like it so far. I’m around page 300 or so and have to wrest the book from my hand each time I put it down for the day. Good choice for our “summer read.”
I find myself gazing suspiciously at the moon when I go outside at night. Seeing the moon as it should be almost doesn’t seem right but I’m glad that I’m not looking at multiple pieces of it. #:-S
I just read page 333 and was completely caught by surprise. I like that in a book.
^And you know that’s going to cause trouble!
Oh yes!
I’m up to page 787. I may have to finish it tonight, sniff. This has been a great summer selection.
Truly stellar!
Looking forward to the discussion.
Just jumping in here to say I’ll be passing on the August Book Club. During the summer I have a RL “Books on the Beach” that meets every 2 weeks, so I’m kept hopping trying to get through those selections.
As a footnote, I did finish (and enjoy) the previous CC selection, “A Spool of Blue Thread,” but haven’t had a chance to read through the discussion. (I still hope to do that.)
Happy summer to all!
@cbbblinker “books on the beach” what a great concept- inquiring minds want to know, what other books is your beachy group reading
On page 62 of seveneves and enjoying it so much- thanks for selecting this one
cbbblinker: I second the request re the summer books for your “Books on the Beach” book club.
I adore all these “in between” posts. It’s the first time I’ve seen it since I’ve been involved with this group.
Ha, ha! OK, for those with “inquiring minds,” here’s what we’re reading at the beach:
“All the Light We Cannot See” by by Anthony Doerr
“Lila” by Marilynne Robinson
“Mrs. Grant and Madame Jule” by Jennifer Chiaverini
“Go Set A Watchman” by Harper Lee, along with a (re)reading of “To Kill a Mockingbird”
Our first “meeting” was yesterday. Yes, there is wine involved, plus sun (hopefully) and sand. We only go through Labor Day, so it’s a short “season.” We have one more book to pick; we’ll decide at the next meeting.
Thanks @CBBBlinker -wine, beach, sun and books- living large! Oh, and sunscreen-
Too much wine, too little sunscreen a bad thing
Looking forward to which ones you recommend.
If at jersey shore watch out for those Portuguese man of war ( jelly fish with nasty stingers) popping up on our beaches, along with sharks.
