you mean the bigotry of those committed to exterminate as many people as possible who do not agree with their beliefs? yes, i do expect to see more of that bigotry.

Actually, the people who want to kill all people in favor of a pluralistic society don’t practice bigotry, but hate.
Bigotry is confusing those hateful people with faithful fellow citizens.
That confusion is exactly what they want.
We cannot let them win.
They are clearly hateful and bigots simultaneously. Unfortunately, we don’t easily know in advance who is hateful and who is a faithful citizen (or at least a peaceful resident). So it is sensible to monitor organizations where the homicidal hateful bigots may be hanging out and sometimes getting material support.

He was killed in a shootout in Milan. Whether he had a network of conspirators is still a question.
So he was Tunisian, not Syrian. I wonder why he was admitted to Germany in the first place. Then when he was denied asylum, he was not removed quickly. It is not bigotry to remove illegal entrants who are criminals who may do harm to citizens.
Because the Schengan Zone has open borders. Once you’re in, you’re in.
I meant that if he wasn’t a Syrian refugee, why was he admitted to Europe in the first place.
Considering that Western Europe has a Mediterranean coastline that stretches from Gibraltar to Greece, it’s nigh impossible to prevent migrants coming in from the southern & eastern shores.
Possibly through Turkey, through which he, like many others make their way to the EU.
Parts of the Washington Post article are just wrong. I’m surprised the Washington Post didn’t do a better job of fact checking some of Kepel’s assertions.
Care to be more specific in your criticism? And your credentials?
Kepel is one of the foremost experts on Islamist terrorism.
Anis Amri was in a border camp in Italy and wasn’t accepted into Europe, so he set his room on fire and was sent to jail for it. He was supposed to be sent back to Tunisia except there’s been a lot of turmoil in Tunisia ( not just administrative) and the actual administration is not efficient, so he left jail and moved to Germany, where he applied for asylum seven times under different names and was turned down seven times. He was going to e expelled but Tunisia was taking its time processing the deportation forms. They sent those on Wednesday, ironically and sadly.
In my opinion it shows the European vetting process works well since he was turned down eight times including six with different names, and the authorities weren’t duped.
@doschicos The insinuation that Al-Suri wants the West to lynch Muslims is ridiculous. Although in fairness to Kepel, Guo or the newspaper he was quoting from, may have taken his statement out of context. Journalists should start with primary sources, and not to do so is lazy journalism. If you want to understand jihadi leaders on their terms, start by reading their statements.
I think there’s a tremendous amount of ground between these two endpoints. And agree that public sentiment is likely shifting, since enough massacres will generate revulsion in the most unlikely places.
He might be an outlier but I do recall that the reason Mateen killed 49 people finally dribbled out. Not because he was a conflicted homosexual, not because he felt marginalized by all the suspicion/bigotry coming his way, but because:
The strategy of most of the last decade isn’t working. What will eventually replace it is likely to give CAIR a stroke.
They didn’t want him back and Germany was hamstrung in getting rid of him.
There’s a suggestion in the link below that Germany intends to streamline the legal process.

Most of those boats crossing the Mediterranean (that sometimes make the news for capsizing) are not coming from Syria, they are coming from North Africa.
I know that the Daily Mirror is a tabloid. Yet, I think this opinion piece in it does a good job of explaining what happened. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/truth-berlin-christmas-market-terror-9500721

@jonri, thanks. That was an interesting article and kudos to the lorry driver who helped prevent more carnage.
Not sure if it has been mentioned in this thread, but the suspect was killed in a shootout with police in Italy.

The Daily Mirror article was stupid. Open borders to EU citizens does not necessitate opening borders to Syrian refugees, Tunisian criminals, or anyone else who may be a security threat.
I paused at several of the impromptu memorial sites amidst the Christmas market in Betlin. For weeks, we had been eagerly anticipating visiting this particular festive place.
The market is filled again with people, but the stalls along the attack route are still shuttered.
