Trojanchick, those Fastskins disintegrate in chlorinated water rather rapidly. I recall when the first Fastskins appeared in swim stores after the Sydney games, some wealthy parents bought them for their summer leaguers. Only to discover that the $300 suits fell apart after 2-3 meets. D’s teammates preferred Aquablades (does Speedo still make them?).

The Italian team jacket was a hot sought after commodity during the 2010 Vancouver games.

Those of you who don’t like the U.S. uniforms, wait until you see some of those being worn by other countries! Bad, very bad. We’re up to Nepal so far and I think Germany wins for the worst. ;)

Seriously unattractive outfits for the women. I agree that the RL logo should not be prominently displayed. As for those socks, well, my mother made me wear those to school - in 1965! and I would take them off as soon as I got on the school bus, embarrassed to be seen. Ugly then, and even worse on grown women. Perhaps they should consult Project Runway winners for design tips.

I thought USA looked just like 8 other countries. I really liked Italy, Poland and am seriously going to search for the China tie and some of the other countries scarves. And the sock/shoe combo was painful. The berets looked better the longer I saw them.

My vote for worst was probably Liberia though. They were large flags.

Yes, tonight showed that most countries abide by the grand old tradition of hideous Olympic uniforms. I missed some that I gather were particularly horrendous (Germany), but I did see Liberia. How extremely unfortunate: cheesy flag onesies.

I thought the US uniforms looked like some random nation’s naval uniforms–way too military in flavor and way too serious. I hate berets, and was wondering how many bobby pins it took to keep them all clamped on the athletes heads. One country’s teams wore fedoras–they looked adorable. The Brits gold trimmed monstrosities were as inexplicable as the first three hours of the opening ceremonies, but I guess they get an “A” for consistency.

In looking at some of the photos, I was even more impressed with the Netherlands. If you must wear orange, those trench coats were the most stylish item.

And do you think North Korea was happy that we were in such similar outfits?

I thought Kobe looked great in the beret and concerns about the logo were overblown. Our women’s skirts were a bit too long, but overall I thought our athletes looked great.

I thought they looked like a bunch of third graders headed off to a snobby English “public” school (in the 1960s). Ralph Lauren has seen too many upper class English twits on Monty Python.

I liked the berets and they are much better than all the hats that have been worn by US and others. I thought the US looked fine and no stranger than anyone else. They were in the vast middle of decent uniforms - neither spectacularly cool nor creepy.
