L’Eggs silken mist are my favorite panty hose. I wear them every day. They are more comfortable than the expensive brands like Hanes and don’t snag and run so easily. They don’t squeeze you to death and the color (nude for me) is good. I refuse to go bare legged and pants never fit me right so - yes - I literally wear these to work every day, church every Sunday - that makes 6 days a week.

This is the piece I bought last year to wear under a dress I’d bought for a wedding:

What I like about it, is that you wear whatever bra you want to with it.

I have the same soma piece as teriwtt. I found it to be comfortable and did a reasonably good job. I have worn it under shift style dresses similar to the OP’s dress.
I also like the wacoal shorts style body shaper. I find it is easier to get on then Spanx and at least on me the top doesn’t roll over. I never found a Spanx style that fit me comfortably and that didn’t roll over at the waist band.
