Shenandoah BFA Actiing vs UARTS BFA Musical Theater

My daughter is at Shenandoah for BFA Acting and is loving it there! To keep up some of her MT skills she takes a dance class and sings in the chorus. I believe she could take voice lessons, but didn’t do so this year. She likes the depth of the Acting program and feels like it has been a better fit for her personally. The musicals and plays don’t distinguish between the programs when casting and both tracks take some classes together. I will say that MT seems to foster more of a close group than the Acting freshmen, which was totally fine for my kid but might not be for some.

The other thing I’d think about a lot is the type of college that would be a good fit, and those two are very different. Shenandoah is a small school, though the campus is fairly expansive and lovely. The Conservatory is a big part of the school, but not everything and so my daughter has friends from lots of different fields of study. The town of Winchester offers enough basics of shopping and food, but it’s certainly not Philadelphia! The environment is just what my daughter wanted, so I’m not putting it out there as a negative, but it should factor it as much as the programs themselves.

Let me know if you have any questions! And congrats!
