Shingles without pain?

The general rule for shingles is the older you are the “worse” the symptoms. Of course, there are tons of variation from person to person on symptoms, onset and duration.

My #3 got shingles as a two and 1/2 year old. She never had chicken pox but was exposed to chicken pox when she was about 10 months old. Her biggest sister brought them home from first grade and my then two year old both got very nice cases of chickent pox. As D3 was still in diapers, I looked and looked and never found one pox on her.

Two years later, exactly - she broke out in shingles. No pain just the nasty rash. She still has a small scar on her lower back. My youngest was born by then - she was just over a year old and got a pretty good case of chicken pox.
Their father got shingles a few weeks later. Nasty rash and pain on his arm.

My mother got shingles a few years ago - just before they came out with a shot. She was chronically ill anyway and her immune system was supressed. With her the pain lingered long after the rash went away. It was awful for her.

All I can say, is that I coerced my folks & hubby to get their shingles vaccine. Hubby & D were quite miserable with their shingles & D still has MANY scars on her legs from them. She had it when she was just a teen. I plan to get mine when I turn 60. Our insurer does cover it for folks who are 60+.
