Shingles!

That is untrue. You can get it again. But if you want to take that chance, be my guest. After dozens and dozens of stories heard about how miserable it is, I’m not taking any chances. Not even a 5% chance. Those are weeks and months you will never get back.

Yes can get shingles multiple times and be miserable each time. Mom has several friends who sadly have been so afflicted. They have even gone to the ER, which can’t help them other to give whatever limited symptomatic relief they can.

No it isn’t. Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus, that may be dormant in a person’s system if they had the chickenpox as a kid, etc. It can become active due to a weakened immune system. Things like age and stress can weaken an immune system, but stress itself does not “cause” shingles, so doing relaxing things may not speed the healing process. That said, doing things that don’t further weaken the immune system, or that help to strengthen it may be a good idea. http://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/how-to-boost-your-immune-system And eating chocolate can’t hurt

My grandmother got shingles over and over again. It was bad enough that I can recall the times clearly, even though I was a typical self-absorbed kid. :frowning:

@poetsheart. I would get a 2nd opinion from another doctor just to make sure there is no misdiagnosis.
If it is red spots all over the body it could be scabies. That looks like a mosquito bit.

After reading this whole thread once I am cured I am definitely getting the vaccine.

I wonder if the vaccine is a one time thing that possibly delayed so as not to get shingles later in life because the outbreak gets worse. Still I would rather have the vaccine because I don’t want to go through this again. I just hope the next time I get a mosquito bite I don’t get paranoid about it being more than what it is with all the possible skin infections out there. I know shingles will heal in time but I am also concerned about scarring as I don’t touch it at all.
