Shipping Stuff

you can ship to the dorm mailing address, but beware, it will be crowded on that last weekend, i.e., long lines for pickup at the mail rooms. The lines are even longer since the upperclassmen descend on campus and they get in line to pickup their books (via Amazon or other online sellers).

Another alternative is to ship stuff to your hotel if you are hanging around for a couple of days. UPS and Fedex Ground are pretty consistent, and the hotel will hold the package for you. Plus, if you have a car, since you can put it in the trunk, drive to campus, drop it off and let the local sherpas (aka Welcome Wagon) carry it upstairs for you. (you’ll have to schlep it from the campus mail room.)

I usually check onboard (the plane) the stuff we absolutely have to have on Day 1 (e.g., bedding), ship some to the hotel, and other misc. stuff to the dorm mail box.

If you do ship to campus, ship early. So much stuff arrives in the last day or two, the staff gets behind in sorting it all out. Thus, your boxes may be there, but until it is sorted, no one can pick it up…Also note, that pickup requires a print out of the e-mail notice that your child will receive, once they’ve sorted.
