You’re welcome.

My d had foot surgery last year and she just bought a pair of Cole Hahn oxfords. A low sturdy heel would probably be your friend. Also have you ever tried any of the shoe inserts from dr scholls?

Danskos are pretty much the thing for all teachers, nurses, librarians and hip moms where I live. They come in some very fun colors and prints. I have several different textured neutrals that I love (python and a black patten with a little silver “scribble” pattern).

http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/dansko-pro-xp-clog/3604600?origin=category-personalizedsort&contextualcategoryid=0&fashionColor=Black&resultback=4908&cm_sp=personalizedsort-_-browseresults-_-1_13_B

Everyone raved about Danskos, so I got a pair, and found them incredibly painful.

I live in Merrell’s Jungle Mocs, but they don’t look good with a skirt. Have you tried something like this? <a href=“No results for Merrell avesso espresso | Zappos.com”>No results for Merrell avesso espresso | Zappos.com;

or this?

I’ve got some Rieker Antistress shoes I love, not quite as clunky as these, but same kind of sole:
<a href=“Rieker L1751 Celia 51 | Zappos.com”>http://www.zappos.com/rieker-l1766-celia-66-noce-walnut

If you are okay with some heel I like these:

How about a boot? I discovered Naturalizer boots last year when I really wanted a leather boot that was wide calf, wide foot and not too stiff. They are VERY comfy and go with just about everything. They make several riding type styles in black, medium brown and darker brown and most have wide shaft and foot options.

Danskos do take a little time to ‘adjust’ to. I have to wear cotton socks. D told me to break them in by adding an hour a day. She says that the doctors and nurses wear them because they are so comfortable and - TMI Warning! - they clean up well under running water. :-&

I have a pair of Dansko slides, but the sole is so stiff, I dont wear them much.
I’d rather go barefoot as much as possible or at the very least have a thin & flexible shoe.

<a href=“Ped Shoes - Trippen Classic”>http://www.pedshoes.com/trippen_classic/

^ really comfortable. not inexpensive. : (
…
also really comfortable and made to last forever:

https://cydwoq.com/womens/cydwoq-line/shoes/win.html

https://cydwoq.com/sin.html

you can order cydwoqs in whatever color you want. from a store is better than from the site imho

adding: my wins have the same sole as the sins boots. That is the sole you will want for comfort imho.

all above are truly expensive but well worth it if you can afford it. again - imho. : )

and I hope they look okay with casual dresses, cause that’s what I wear!

No offense, alh, but BOY are those ugly shoes! But I’m sure if they’re comfortable and last forever, that’s a decent tradeoff. I really wish comfort shoes were better looking. Some companies pull it off but I wouldn’t call too many of them cute or stylish.

no offense taken. they match my clothes ! lol

soft footbed birkenstocks - they make some cute sandal styles. Allegria shoes - designed for nurses. They are ubercomfortable and have great arch supports and come in the most fantastic styles and designs. I have several pairs. The only problem is some of them squeak when you walk - I am okay with the squeaking.

I like my Danskos. But I do find them more comfortable with thicker socks. They are expensive and last forever. Also, I would not go to a spine specialist for back pain that comes and goes. But I would maybe find a new exercise routine. Check this out before spending money on back evaluations <a href=“A YouTube Video Is Doctor's Secret Weapon Against Back Pain : Shots - Health News : NPR”>A YouTube Video Is Doctor's Secret Weapon Against Back Pain : Shots - Health News : NPR;

I was out shopping today, looking for some new shoes that would be good for walking along the beach, since H and I are headed to the PNW in a couple of weeks. I’ve never bought shoes at The Walking Company, but saw a couple I thought were OK. The pair I really wanted was on sale, but they didn’t have it in stock in my color and size (neither did the other two closest stores), so the salesperson brought me this pair:
http://www.thewalkingcompany.com/abeo-b.i.o.-crescent-neutral-stone/18662

I about died when he opened the box, they are so ugly, but I tried them on and they were about the most comfortable pair of sandals I’d ever tried on, so I sucked it up and bought them. I really, really want my feet to be comfortable on this trip, especially for long walks on the beach.

But while I was there, I saw these shoes, and they looked pretty comfortable, so I tried them on in the taupe:
http://www.thewalkingcompany.com/taos-carousel-majolica-blue/33758
The were really comfortable, and looked better on my feet than on the shelf, so I bought them.

So I’d say my first experience at The Walking Company was pretty good. I’d shop there again, although I tend to be of the mindset that a lot of those shoes look pretty matronly and style-less.

alh - the shoes would look completely out of place with the run of the mill kind of dress, but with some artsy outfit they would be just perfect. It really depends on what the person’s personal style looks like.

So, the project manager in me wants to make a short summary/minutes of our meeting so far:

It looks like Op does not think she needs to see a doctor; maybe get a PT recommendation.

Sensible heels, cushioning (rubber soles), and good arch support are a must.

Shoes are very personal when it comes to both style and fit. OP needs to try on a few to see what works for her feet. Maybe supplement with Dr Scholls or Superfeet insoles. There are many great brand/style recommendation in the thread!

Oxfords can be worn with skirts and dresses. Oxfords are part of menswear, so in order to not look too manly, the outfit has to incorporate some feminine elements (e.g., if a longer (tea or midi) skirt is preferred, it has to be flowy and unstructured).

Boots!

Please add whatever I missed. :)

A perk of boots is that you can wear thorlo arch support socks inside them :D

It’s all a matter of taste. High (not too high) or low (not too low)… good support is key.

DD tried on MANY different pair at DSW and ended up with a comfy pair of life stride, I think black loafer/wedge. She loves them and discovered they are surprisingly comfortable, even work when running full speed for the train.

Mephisto makes very comfortable shoes. Not cheap but comfy.

I have some purple Birkenstock clogs (for women) that are cute, kinda funky and really comfortable.
Mephisto shoes aren’t cheap but very comfy. Their Helen sandal is the most comfortable I’ve ever had.
Naot shoes are comfy too.

Like the summary, BB.
Ok, I’ll show you what I like: http://www.aerosoles.com/eng/product/nuwlywed/nuwlywed (my girls think these are neat) and http://www.aerosoles.com/eng/product/endurance/endurance Good with pants or skirts. Aerosoles has another even less sporty style I wear with nicer, slinkier pantsuits. All so comfy.

Would you wear 'em, emeraldkity?

Speaking of aerosoles . . . I have this wedge sandal in bone and it is the most comfortable shoe on the face of the earth. I could wear it for hours and hours, standing, walking, dancing . . . goes with seemingly everything. I just happened upon them at Ross. They actually look way more stylish on than in the picture.
