My D is a senior in high school and most of the dresses on those websites don’t look like anything she would wear, unless Elliott Spitzer was her date. She stumbled upon her dress months ago - not a typical prom dress so she’s not worried about others having it.

I went to Chicago a year or so ago, and I ended up roaming around Bucktown, where I found one of the most incredible vintage stores I have ever seen in my life. My daughter wears vintage clothes, so I’ve visited them all, I feel-- and this store had some of the most incredible and one-of-a-kind clothes (including cocktail dresses, prom-type dresses, coats, women’s suits, hats) that I have ever seen-- exquisite and in absolutely perfect shape. Of course, I cannot now remember the name of the store, but it’s on the main shopping drag in Bucktown. Go visit; you will not regret it. Your daughter will surely find something there, and she won’t see anybody wearing the same dress at her prom/

I will add that my daughter always found her prom dresses through vintage stores; there are also a few really good online ones. If you want to know what they are, just pm me. The older dresses, as you may or may not know, are more true to size than today’s clothes (you know, back when a size 4 was really a size 4).

I just remembered. I am pretty sure it was called Store B.

I’m actually from Glenview. In the Glen, you have Von Maur’s, but that is kind of pricey. The closest malls are either Northbrook Court, Old Orchard, Golf Mill, or Randhurst. Randhurst has been hurting since JCPenny’s and Kohl’s left. Old Orchard and Northbrook Court have similar stores.
There is one Wedding shop/boutique in downtown Glenview at Glenview and Waukegan.

I would second nova10’s suggestion with Old Orchard. Stay away from Randhurst - I was there a couple of weeks ago, and other than Carson’s it’s pretty slim pickings.

My motto has basically been, if you can’t find it at Old Orchard or Woodfield, it might not exist, unless you’re willing to take the time to really, really look around at the smaller boutiques, which will require some major driving. There is a Betsey Johnson store, I think at Northbrook. However, having said all this, when it comes to prom dresses, it’s the one area I have been impressed with the larger Carsons. For some reason, every year, they make room for more prom dresses than any other store, and if you find one you like but they don’t have it in your size, another Carson’s inevitably has it.

They’re actually going to tear down Randhurst and rebuild it as an outside mall. Ironic, because it was one of the first indoor malls in the area.
