<p>I agree with dsmo. Michigan is selective, but it is not mega-selective. A 3.9 student with a 1350/2050+ SAT has a decent shot, assuming the school and course selection is good.</p>

<p>Although I have previously mentioned the importance of ECs on a different thread, I really don’t see Michigan rejecting an applicant with a 3.9 GPA and a 1380 SAT score.</p>

<p>wait what? I have a 3.82 UM GPA in the toughest classes and a 30 ACT non super scored and people say that I’m a safe-solid match, some even listed me as a safety? I’m confused. I think I’ll have to repost my stats now because I was told I’m basically in. </p>

<p>I would say you are match. i think “safety” might be slightly overstated, as an ACT score of 30 isn’t quite in the top 25%, but definitely a match. good luck!</p>

<p>Is a 30 on the ACT low? I never took the ACT so I am completely ignorant on its grading system. I guess if it’s that low, than you’re a safe-match.</p>

<p>30 on the ACT is not low. It is the mean score at Brown, Columbia and Cornell. The mean ACT score at other super selective schools like Chicago, Dartmouth, Duke, Northwestern etc… is 31. The mean at Michigan is 29. So a score of 30 is not low.</p>

<p>Alexandre, sources on those IL stats please. The avg at Notre Dame is 33-34. 30 seems a little low for the ones you mentioned…</p>

<p>For the class of 2011 at Cornell (the “least selective” Ivy), 60% score a 700-800 on the math portion of the SAT, while 42% scored a 700-800 on the verbal section. That translates roughly to an ACT score of 32-36. Apparently the writing section was not considered…</p>

<p>Like I said, most elite universities have mean ACT scores that range from 29 to 31. I am not sure about Notre Dame, but 33 sounds a little bit high. Maybe that’s the mean ACT score of admitted students. The mean ACT score of students at Harvard and Yale is 32.5, so I doubt Notre Dame’s mean ACT score is 33.</p>
