Should ChEs be required to take two semester of physics?

<p>Chemical engineers that actually work in plants need the circuits and optics taught in Physics II. I am familiar with that environment. Yes, the material is reprised in subsequent introductory courses in EE ,control and instrumentation, and analytical chemistry. Do you want to go into these higher level , albeit introductory, courses cold?</p>

<p>When your employer’s plant is not running, not producing quality, or not “up to speed” ( stream factor, yield, throughput) your boss is going to want you to direct efforts to fix things. It doesn’t matter whether the problem is electrical in nature, involves heat transfer problems, or is the result of a stoichiometric imbalance. You have to know or be able to ask for appropriate help.</p>

<p>My God! You are as whiny as a pre-med dis-ing Organic. Why not just cut out all the hard courses and just give out degrees for nothing.</p>

<p>EDIT: For clarification, if I hadn’t made it clear before: I’ve already graduated from my undergraduate ChBE program and now in the master’s program. So, I know a thing or two about the academic side of things. I am asking for a “real world” perspective as I’ve never done a coop or internship.</p>

<p>I apologize for my stupidity. You have never done an internship? Why not? Not even one?</p>

<p>I never did an internship because I never made the time for it. Every semester I was in college I was taking classes or doing research. Never having done a coop or internship is something I regret.</p>

<p>Oh man, you got to live a little. Go get a taste of some of that money. I guarantee you, the last thing on your mind would be research, lol.</p>
