I must say it is a little irresponsible from the school authorities. These days some people may think that everyone can get an engraved plaque from a shop like Hoult-hellewell in Scarborough, but seeing trophies and award plaques with name engraved on it is still a matter of pride for many. Seeing their name and rank in a plaque placed in the college will definitely boost the morale of the kids. Any student loves to see their name ranked high in one of those. So in my opinion, they should have no excuse in messing it up. You should definitely have a word with the principal.

Thanks everyone–I think I will politely email a relatively new counselor that has dealt with the NM paperwork the last year or two. She might be able to understand what I’m getting at. (H thinks that people hate to have mistakes pointed out and will just resent it and not fix it anyway. So he thinks I should ignore it.)

I would politely point it out as you are doing. If they are going to mention honors of these kids, they should do it properly. There is no point in making these gross errors. Our kids’ HS was good about getting the NMSF and NMF awards correctly listed in the alumni mag. They would event take a photo with the kids who were available & list those missing. As far as I know, they didn’t have any plaque, but if they did, I’d be irked if it was incorrect and would point out the errors.

If they are going to do it, then do it right. Heck yeah speak up.
