Should I bring up a controversial extra curricular on my application?

@lindagaf, I wondered the same when I noticed OP’s new avatar this morning.

@twogirls You said that I am not fighting for childrens rights. What exactly do you consider “childrens rights”?

  • Children have a right to a free and appropriate education
  • Children have a right to live in a healthy and safe environment
  • Children have a right to healthcare
  • Children have a right to not be bullied in school
  • Children have a right to receive healthy food

Etc.

You come across as entitled, immature, with no perspective as to how others live.

@twogirls What about human rights? They don’t have human rights?

OP: just to let you know, this web site allows discussions.

but not debating, nor politics. People get really mean in those subjects sometimes.

So many people like this forum because its reasonable for the most part - ask a question, discuss, think about it. Agree, or not. There are lots of disagreements here. And certainly lots of people who I don’t see eye to eye with.

But debating and politics aren’t allowed.

I love this site because it has helped me with my kids and their college quests and how financial aid works; I’ve learned so much from wise responders, and like hearing other’s stories.

so many questions we have: go for the money with colleges? go for elite? how to make it all work? what do elites want? what are the best auto-merit schools? do rankings matter? the list is endless. And informative. and gives so many ideas to think about.

We hope you’ll stick around and learn from very sage responders all over the US. There is so much collective wisdom here!

One last comment before I force myself to stop.

You are fighting for children’s “rights” that are a direct result of your privileged upbringing and naïveté.

  • you assume 9 year olds are well educated and can read (why not fight for educational equity for children?)
  • you assume 11 year olds have access to a car (why not fight to lift children out of poverty?)
  • you assume 16 year olds can easily get to a polling place to vote (why not fight for people to have equal access to polls?)
  • you assume children live in a neighborhood free from violence, and can safely travel to and from a job (why not fight to avoid future school tragedies?)

Now I will stop, as this is about to get political.

@twogirls I do fight for educational equality, lifting them out of poverty, having equal access to polls and avoiding school tragedies. I never said that I didn’t support any of those things. Why do you think that I don’t support those things?

To answer your question, yes please put all of your controversial ECs in you application, warts and all and make sure to play up your belief in making America great again. Be true to your teenage self and let the chips fall where they may…

Why is there such a bias against Donald Trump and the GOP on here? And why such a bias towards Bernie Sanders and his socialist ideals?
