Should I ditch my American Express Card?

I too have the CostCo Amex. If you have been a cardholder for years, does all that carry over, or if OP went to CostCo, would it be like a brand new account?
Cash back and the “fee” is for CostCo membership, nothing extra for card.

Is the cash back everywhere you shop, or just at Costco? I haven’t been inside a Costco in more than 10 years.

We have the so-called “executive membership” at Costco. For us, the Costco annual fee is an extra $50 (total $100), but we get 2% cashback from Costco on all purchases made at Costco AND 1-3% variable cashback from Amex Costco (3% on gas, 2% on travel, and 1% on everything else no matter where yo buy it). The rebate checks are as good as cash, but the catch is that they can only be cashed in at Costco. If you don’t have the executive membership, you will be getting just the Amex rebate.

You’re making me want to take advantage of the AMEX offers that tie into Delta Miles. When the NW Visa with FF miles was discontinued, it morphed into Amex with Delta miles. As Amex is taken in fewer places, I thought not worth my while, though the free miles are attractive. Maybe I should re consider. Historically there has been no Costco in my area, though one just opened. Opinions?

I keep my AmEx card for several reasons. First–the travel rewards points. As someone mentioned, you can use AmEx points with a number of different airlines. The other reason I keep AmEx is that AmEx will investigate any issue that you may have with an item that you have purchased with your Amex card. Amex will stop payment until it investigates. I got scammed on E-bay. I won a bid and when the item wasn’t in the mail promptly, I emailed the seller. He then sent me a registered letter–I signed for it–he used that signature to claim he sent me the item I purchased. Paypal accepted his story as did Ebay-Ebay did eventually kick him off Ebay. He was selling the same designer purse over and over. Amex investigated and stopped payment to the seller and found in my favor. I had copies of what the seller wrote in the registered letter, copies of emails from others who had been scammed by the same seller, etc. Amex kept me from losing $1800–I’m now a loyal card holder.

Just a tip, if you like Amex and dont want to pay the annual fee, see if they can convert your account into a credit account like Blue. No annual fee, and similar CS.
