Even though you made a mistake there is no reason in not trying. If attending an academy is something you really want to set your mind to, then do it. What is the worst thing that could happen? If you do decide that you want to attend USNA/USMA/USAFA, then you need to keep your grades up, challenge youself with advanced and honors classes, get involved in extracurricular organizations (student govt, fbla, nhs, fea, etc), and try to take on leadership roles in anything you can. You are already moving in the right direction with NJROTC and sports. Stay in both! NJROTC isnt a huge factor in the admissions process, but it looks good. Try attending the summer seminar and a football/wrestling/track camp to see if going to the academy is something you want to do. You will also be able to gauge yourself in terms of the competition. Take the SATs as many times as you can before applying to the academy and stay out of trouble! Good luck on getting in
