Should I have a "college talk" with my 7th grade brother?

A casual talk, keeping in touch & available, and leading by example are all good. Please remember that your little brother looks up to YOU and will pay attention to what you do differently now and will notice if you tell him one thing and then don’t “practice what you preach.” If you tell your brother that you wish you studied harder and took challenging courses but then goof off, waste your opportunities and take easy, non-challenging courses, he’s watching you. You can be a good or bad example. He’s seen you be the lazy, loafing & in trouble example–you now can be the good example as well.

Please remember that your actions speak louder than your words. If you show you’re taking your work seriously, your brother may as well, especially if you take courses you love that challenge you and work to get good internships and find a field you love and do well in.

Good luck!

SteveMA you better check this year’s admissions statistics at colleges that are not Ivies, and have admit rates greater than 20%, not the 6% you mention. It used to be that if you fell in the right range for GPA test scores, etc you WERE a shoein!
But the plot has thickened, and there are too many variables besides stats that determine outcome, like ability to pay, record high numbers of applicants ( this btw is because admissions are a crapshoot many students are realizing this and now apply to 10+ schools just to be sure they get in SOMEwhere) out of state residency etc.

No.

And by the way, how well are you positioned to measure his “natural intelligence”?
