Should I just give up applying?

I personally don’t think you should discuss the essay issue again. Your application is being reconsidered. They know about the essay issue. To keep bringing it up is not going to do anything to sway the balance in your favor and it might seem like attention-grubbing. If you do mention it, I would only do so as part of some of other point you wish to make. There are lots of resources if you Google how to frame a LOCI. It needs to be short, but persuasive. If there any new items such as awards or recognition, add them. Target something speficially about why you are a good fit for the school. Allow your personality to come through. State you will attend if accepted, though Harvard won’t care so much about that, due to high yield. There is a very good LOCI example on the internet of a girl who got into Tufts off waitlist.

My D got off waitlist to the college she is now attending. She sent an initial email after being waitlisted to express her continued interest and that she would attend if accepted. She followed up with a more in-depth email a day or two after acceptance deadlines. She discussed some particular classes of interest, and why they appealed, as well as some goals she hoped to achieve at the college and why the college was the best place for her to reach her goals. It worked.

Note, I understand that deferrment is different from wailist, but the same principles apply regarding LOCI.

Just thought I’d let y’all know that I got into Georgia Tech for MechE this morning!

Great news Pocrocodro! Keep us posted!

Excellent news!
Is it affordable?
Congratulations

@Lindagaf @MYOS1634 Thanks so much to everyone!

I’m not sure how affordable it will be. GT releases its FA packages in late March/early April, so I’ll see then. My EFC is moderately high (<20k), so I’m not expecting much aid. I’m just really happy I have Tech as a school for me to go to, especially with the OOS acceptance rate being so low!

Thanks again

Congratulations! (Lurker and fan here…I have been following your story and rooting for you.) You WILL be able to go away from home to a fine school next year  Keep us posted on any new developments!

@pocrocodro Congrats on Georgia Tech! Exciting news! <:-P

@pocrocodro And I see you got into ND (Mendoza) as well so you have some great choices.

@pocrocodro , congrats! Notre Dame is a great college! You have to keep us posted!

Following along with great interest here, too…

Really sorry, everyone! I’m so embarrassed lol. I planned to post Notre Dame in here after I get my Emory decision tomorrow afternoon so I wouldn’t flood the thread. But yes, it is true! I got into Notre Dame.

@pocrocodro Absolutely no reason t be embarrassed…I just happen to check the ND forum (my S went to grad school at Mendoza) and saw it. I was very happy for you and I guess I jumped the gun by posting it here! I know everyone here is excited for you – you handled a sticky predicament as well as possible and now you have some wonderful college choices. Hopefully more good news will follow, but if these options are affordable, you are already in great shape.

@happy1 Thanks so much  I really, really appreciate your support. You didn’t jump the gun at all.

As for other decisions, I forgot to say that was rejected by MIT on Pi Day. However, I was admitted to Emory (and Oxford College) University today! Emory was the first school that acknowledged that they received my essay and would look at my own essay, rather than my father’s, so I’m especially happy about this.

Congratulations!
Very happy someone recognized your own writing for what it is.
And if that’s where you go… you’ll know you got in with your own work.

Congrats on some great options already!!

Hi everyone!

So, Ivy Day (actually, this week as a whole) didn’t fare the best for me. Here are the results:

Georgetown - accepted
Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Brown, Duke - waitlist
Cornell and Dartmouth - denied

This list dumbfounds me a little, especially knowing that the more selective schools waitlisted me, while the less selective denied me. I’ve divulged this information to my friends, and they are quite at a loss on what to take away from the decisions. All of them (my friends) were rejected from all the Ivies they applied to, and it looks like I got the furthest, so I’m particularly frustrated at the Ivies for rejecting so many motivated and intelligent students. I’m very disappointed in the waitlists, but I’ll shrug it off because I know I have some great choices for the fall. Stanford is tomorrow, and I know that was my best application by far, so I’m holding onto some hope that I may have gotten in.

Thank you guys so much again!

Nothing dumbfounding about it. All highly selective schools, all with holistic admissions. Don’t expect to see a pattern. And don’t read too much into the waitlist either. think of it as a soft denial. Odds are extremely slim of coming off it.

But hey GEORGETOWN! Congratulations on some excellent options!

Now you have at least five great options  Congratulations! Do you have a favorite so far? Can you visit some schools?

Congratulations!!!
Which are your favorites?
Are they affordable?
And while only you will know it, the colleges you were admitted to (or WL at) did so with YOUR essay.

Good for you Pocrocodro! Update us all with your final decision.
