Should I let her change schools?

I want to clarify that the stabbing did not occur at the school. They found the weapons at school, and a threat was made to the school, but no gang violence has occurred on the property.

I thought the Texas Distinguished diploma was more important than it is, apparently. She is on track for everything on it but French III, so that’s why I was making French an issue.

My daughter does want to go out of state, but I am insisting that she have at least one Texas school on her list as a safety. The 10% rule would guarantee admission to most schools in Texas as long as she follows the admission requirements.

Both schools rank, but the smaller school only accepts weighted credit for classes that they also offer as advanced classes. The school does not have honors biology or English I, so she would loose her honors credit for these two courses, as well as Algebra II for this year. This would probably affect her class rank.

There is no transfer fee, and the school pretty much accepts anyone who requests transfer.

Transportation is an issue. I can look into carpooling, but don’t really know the families that are commuting out there. My schedule can not be changed, and there is no way I can drive her on Monday and Friday. Financially it is not feasible for us to move at this point.

I tried to hit everyone’s questions-sorry if I missed one. Thanks for all the comments.

Thanks, everyone, for the discussion of the Texas Distinguished Diploma! DD14 is a freshman, meaning she is the first class to be held to the 4 years of math/4 years of science requirement. With the myriad required courses in Texas now, it will be close to impossible for her to earn the distinguished diploma and still do 4 years of choir and 4 years of drill team. She’s going to be taking difficult classes otherwise, and when else in your life do you get to sing and dance everyday?

smalltownmom, you need to let go of the rank thing, it is clouding your decision, she won’t be “guaranteed” a spot if ranked lower, but she still has amazing chances

it sounds like the Texas Distiguised Diploma is not worth much in terms of the end, but the journey and at least focus kinds of makes sense
