Many schools will tell you that they will use a composite of your highest scores. What they really use the composite for, however, is to pad their own stats for average admitted (often even ignoring the average for actual matriculants). All schools will have all of your scores, and, regardless of what they say publicly, the adcoms at the most competitive schools will “consider” all scores. Consequently, if you already have a high score and are trying to pick up an extra 20 or 30 points, a retake might not be completely without risk.

I might be dense, but I don’t really understand? Why would they want to publish as statistics or even consider my lower SAT scores (if I took it again) (which I don’t think I will)?

When i took the SAT, I told NU I was. After I took it, and saw the my score probly wouldnt get me into the university of minnesota, i just didnt report it. I told them i was unable to give them scores becuase i didnt have any. no scores get reported to any school unless you want them too, you have to check the box that automatically sends them. I took the act three times and reported one score only. Unless things have changed in three years, i would say retake the tests as many times as you want if you are truly not satisfied with your score.

Yeah, but the thing is, if he retakes the test a bunch of times and finally gets a score he likes, NU will see all of his attempts in addition to his “preferred” score.

EDIT: that is, on the SAT. The ACT he can pick and choose

Do you mean they will see all of the SAT scores no matter what and onle the ACT scores he wants?

Also, I should clarify that when i said take it as many times as you want, i had 2 or 3 as the number in my head of what “as many times” was.

“Do you mean they will see all of the SAT scores no matter what and onle the ACT scores he wants?”

yep, collegeboard automatically sends all of your SAT scores to colleges when you request one sent, with the ACT you can pick the testing date(s) you want sent.

do they automatically send SAT II scores along with the SAT? or is that separate?

they send tests independent of each other. Personally, i did not have any of my act or sat tests forwarded, i took them all and then decided which to send…NU only received my highest act score and no other scores, including sat and sat II.

take all the sat2’s you can…there’s no downside.

So on the app, it’s okay to put tennis 4years even though tennis season doesnt start until spring?

yeah, sports you don’t say the number of quarters, since the school only offers the sport for a certain amt of time during each year, you say years. like when you talk about school, you dont’ go to school for the whole year, but you count it as a year of school =P

NU is not a safety for you, sorry.
