After reading this a few times, I get what you are saying and I did not think about it like that originally. Thanks for making me see the matter in a different way. Also, I just found out that after you apply to Northeastern Early Action, you can update your SAT score until December 1st if you retake it in November or December. This relieves some of my stress. Once again, thanks.
But as many people mentioned SAT is not make or brake issue here. I wouldn’t bother with taking SAT again. Once you are in 700 range it is not easy to improve and depends on luck.
I think I can perform better if I put my mind to it though. If I do better, that’s great, If I don’t that’s fine.
Waste of time…
explain, I got a 1450, you don’t think it is a matter of hardwork to get above a 1500? Is it just purely luck?
Is this the case? What about schools that serve a wide range of students but still have strong AP programs? Our school’s average is 19, and my kid got a 33, but IMO an urban school is going to have a huge range of scores, so I am not sure if schools view that as a huge achievement.
It would be no deciding factor for acceptance 1450 vs 1500.
If you do not need aid and can prove your ability to pay the tuition (they need bank statement proof), then do TO and apply ED or EA. Last year, I know of someone who tested 1250 and went TO. He did ED and got in. His stats were very average, maybe a 3.3 or lower UW GPA. He is international, so paying 100% tuition.
You could be using the time to show demonstrated interest (visit, virtual session, even ED) and improve your essay.
Good point on ED. Most who track consider it but Northeastern calls it important - so it’s a must.
My anecdotal story (n=1): My S24 applied EA last year with a 1460 (EBRW 690/Math 770) which he submitted. He was admitted NU.in (did not apply for aid). I don’t think he was above the average for his high school where the SAT average is quite high). I honestly don’t know how he got in but it is what it is. He did show demonstrated interest by visiting the campus as well as when the AO visited his school. Good luck to you.
I believe people have replied, but it might depend on if you apply ED or not. If everything else is excellent and you ED, test scores may not be necessary. Moreover, ask yourself if you want to go to NEU Boston or not. If NUin, London, etc. then your scores might not be taken into account against their stats since admission NUin and possibly London or Oakland might not count against their acceptance rates.
