should I skip Calc 2 and Physics 2?

I have the credits for it…but should I skip them? Would that leave my on a shaky foundation?

I am an ECE major btw.

Thanks!

bump.bump. I have the same question.

Do you feel like your high school taught you well enough and you understand the information fully? If not, it can’t hurt to take Calc and Physics 2 again. Calc and Physics here are completely different than what they would teach you at the high school level. I would not skip it just to be safe. It’ll give you a better foundation, and at the very worst will be a GPA booster for you.

If you have enough AP credits and want to graduate early, skip them. ECE classes are difficult, and most people tend to drop classes to decrease the amount of credit hours in a semester, and thus may have to graduate a semester late.

Personally I would skip them. Your adviser will tell you to retake them once you meet them in a few months, but I would think its just more work. If you think you need a stronger foundation, take some time over the summer and review the materials, however I don’t think this is necessary.

If your school uses something like Stewart or Larson or Finney, Demana, Waits, Kennedy… etc to teach calc, I wouldn’t avoid to re-take it… However if your school uses Apostol or Spivak or Courant as text for calc, I would say skip it. The calc book they use is Stewart (which is I dislike…)

Similarly, if you learned physics 2 with Edward Purcell’s book and did questions regularly, just skip physics 2… it would never be harder than purcell’s…

— This is just my plan since I think I’m able to skip them with no hurt. I’m an admitted student this year too.

I’ve heard to skip calc ii because it’s apparently a hard class, but i myself have no idea. I’m planning to skip it, but I dont know whether I should skip calc iii, which i took through uiuc’s netmath course. I dont really know how to do much of calc iii by hand, as most of it was taught using mathematica. Anyone here have any insight? sorry to thread jack

I’m also an incoming EE freshman, but I really want to switch to ME.

btw, anyone know what kind of class-credit ap environmental science gives?
technical elective? free elective?

thanks!

what score did you get on the AP tests?

I would skip Physics if you have AP credit for it. I retook Physics 212. Despite the fact that it was an easy A for me, I still spent around 8 hours a week doing required work for the course and I never studied.
