Should I take any more tests? If so, which one?

@Dunboyne I’m not sure if I would do all that well on the ACT because I haven’t taken a single AP class and the highest level math class I’ve taken is algebra 2. I believe I am intelligent but I don’t believe I’ve been educated sufficiently enough for my performance to accurately reflect how smart I am. I feel more drawn to the style of the SAT (the old SAT specifically) which devastates me since I know I’ll never again be able to use its old format, the format I was in the midst of becoming so well-versed in.

@joewantstoknow

How many AP classes you have taken or your highest level of math should not affect your ability on the ACT vs SAT (both old and new). The math sections are close to the same on all tests, as were reading/writing in the old SAT and ACT. On the ACT, the science section isn’t about knowing the science but being able to analyze information when given all the info you need. Nowhere in any of the tests does it require an AP class to do well or even get a decent advantage. Take the ACT and try it out!

@PengsPhils this is all reassuring to read, and I will likely try at least one ACT, but I’m still pretty concerned about my performance in the math section. I was always one of the most adept students in my math classes and I’m primarily interested in studying a math-based major in college, so a 650 on SAT math on my second try concerns me. I realize that math strength in the classroom doesn’t really correlate to math strength on standardized tests, but since math tends to be people’s highest SAT section and it isn’t mine, I can only feel somewhat doubtful of my potential. I have a friend who mustered a 730 (third try) with minimal preparation. And let’s not forget the overwhelming majority of kids on this site that even surpass that score. Yikes…
