I wish I could learn to type better with all the new options on the Galaxy note 3 - all this “swyping”, curve features, gestures or whatever else is still foreign to me. I’ve even messed up by not looking carefully at what the word prediction algorithm which ended up substituting my name with some obscure word.

Back to the thread, I had never heard of the term “cursive” even well after high school. We were taught to write in “running hand”. We didn’t use the terms upper and lower case either - for us it was “capitals” and “small letters”. The “running hand” “capitals” were also different, with Q resembling the number 2 with the flow going top to bottom, right, and up to the “u”. Interestingly, left handed students were made to write with their right hands, but would throw ball or field a bat with their left.

Ball point pens were banned in our school (we were told it led to bad handwriting), and most of the time we used fountain pens filled using inkfillers - little glass tubes and rubber heads for suction. Sometimes we even had quill pens - not the feathered kind - just dip pens where you’d immerse the nib in the inkwell for which our desk would have a slot.
