<p>You can put down the phone. You can put down the bottle too. The problem is, people aren’t putting down the phone or the bottle. If some driver hits me while texting-- I’m on a bike, so the consequences could be dire-- I don’t want to hear about all the times when they were driving and not texting.</p>
<p>I think it’s a great idea to have harsh penalties because you essentially pose the same danger to society as you would drinking and driving. Both can kill innocents, what it’s caused from is irrelevant imo.</p>
