Should we stop celebrating or rename Columbus Day?

Relevant: Detroit Columbus statue vandalized.

It’s amazing how that will be cleaned by tomorrow and yet many Detroit residents are still fighting for clean drinking water. But hey, priorities.

Neither did Jesus, and he gets 2 holidays per year.

3, though one’s on a Sunday so maybe it doesn’t count.

Bartolome de las Casas day?

The anniversary of the Spanish Inquisition? 1492. Bittersweet.

Maybe just ethnic day- everyone can celebrate their heritage

LOL GMT. I thought National Secretaries Day was for the man from Nazareth, as in “Jesus Christ, have you finished typing that report yet?”

Come to think of it, New Orleanians get Mardi Gras off, too.

It should be named National scorch day. It was 108 in Camarillo, California beaten the record of 103.

I wouldn’t call Fat Tuesday a Jesus based holiday. But if you do I guess 4.

It’s really the “party on before the Jesus holiday begins” holiday

Christmas, Easter (not a federal/bank holiday) and __________________? what is the third one?

Good Friday…

Everything is open on Good Friday. Not a holiday.

Schools here are open on Columbus Day. Everyone is working. Columbus Day is the day I go to the bank and post office and wonder why they’re closed.

When he lived in MA, my brother told me they called it “storm window day.”

In the west coast, Good Friday is not closed. I used to work for an East Coast on the west coast and we got Good Friday off.

In California, we have Cesar Chavez Day, which holiday no one seems to even notice (except the state courts, which are closed) and whose only purpose seems to be to panic lawyers who discover, when they go to file papers on the holiday, that because the courts are closed the papers were actually due the day before and therefore the deadline has been blown. It is sad actually that there was so much effort to gain recognition for a state holiday that so few people actually observe (to commemorate a very worthy person, I should add).

We use to get Casimir Pulaski Day off. Polish hero of the Revolutionary War. I enjoyed having that day off and rather miss it.

Onward, are you in Illinois?

Some county courthouses in my state are closed for Good Friday. (Of course I found that out when flew a paralegal down state to do something on Good Friday and she reported that the courthouse was closed.)

In NJ Good Friday is a holiday.

I like how Japan has public holidays observing the Spring & Autumnal Equinox, and the Summer & Winter Solstice.
