Showcase 2015

Just attended my daughter’s showcase at the Snapple Theater in NYC. This little BA program from Colorado that is rarely discussed here on cc, the University of Northern Colorado. Just wow! The kids and the show were amazing; truly the culmination of 4 years of training! The kids that worked hard? Well it showed. What does the future hold? Well, who knows. I was in your shoes 4 years ago and have continued to follow the MT forum. It will be okay! Soon your kids will be following their dreams, no matter what school they went to. Just know, it will be okay. I promise. In 4 years, please all come and share your amazing stories. Wishing nothing but success for all of your wonderful kids!
Aloha

Oh, alibabba, so nice to see you back here! Congratulations to your D on her showcase. I bet you had a wonderful time watching that. I still remember the story about your harrowing trip to one audition with weather-related issues. Best of luck to your D going forward with her career!

Great update!!

@alibabba808‌, I was at The 1:30 performance yesterday and agree that they were fantastic! I’m not sure which one was your daughter, but they were all very talented and polished. As you said, it is a program that gets talked about very little here on CC, and that is unfortunate. It is very inexpensive, does a great job training students, and is well-thought of by people like Dave Clemmons and Telsey and Co. In fact, Telsey hosted a private performance of the UNC showcase just for Telsey agents. (I think Michigan is the only other school they do that for!).

Yes, it is a BA program but the only reason for that is because it is a state school and the state will not allow them to change it because two other nearby state schools already offer BFA. Because of this, they run their program very similar to a BFA. This BA distinction is also the reason that they are not an “official” unified school. To officially participate in unifieds a school must offer the BFA.

@alibabba808 I wanted you to read my son’s text after visiting UNCo last week. He was there right before John Leonard and the seniors left for NY.
“Definitely favorite place I’ve visited so far! And the MT students I hung around all day were incredible. Just an awesome student body in general!”

You can’t fake having students who are happy at the their school and love what they are learning. …its sells itself.
Please give your daughter our congrats AND our appreciation!

You know, there have been ups and downs, as there will be this no matter what school you ( or your child) attends. Overall, she is graduating without any debt and is free to go where she wants to start her career. She has had good solid training and a well rounded liberal arts education. Greeley is in the middle of nowhere, but as one of the working Broadway alumni said last night, it will give you lots of time to focus on your craft without distractions.

She had the good fortune of being cast as Mama Noah in UNC’s Children of Eden in the spring show of her senior year, and it was a happy ending to her 4 years of craziness. To follow this bit of what may seem like boasting…Not gonna lie, she REALLY wanted to drop out sophomore year after an amazing freshman year (yeah, that sucked and had me rethinking the whole college decision). But she forged on.

My kid has been dreaming of NYC for years, but will go where the work is (including Canada, alwaysamom

Wow, whole post did not go through, trying to fix…

…including Canada, alwaysamom - from London, Ont.

Anyhow, showcase was successful for her, a few interviews so far. And there were a number of agents, not just friends, family and alumni. For the record she sang a Beatles song and did a comedic, contemporary duet (with an amazingly talented classmate and friend) that closed the show.

This college journey is almost done for us. But thanks again to all the cc posters (especially the veterans) who have taken the time over the years to educate us and keep us sane!

All of you going through the struggle this year, keep on keeping on! Your kids will find their success and get the training that they need, one way or the other! Then, post in 4 years (or less…or more) and let us all know how it all worked out!
Mahalo and Aloha

Let me also add, a number of MTCA coaches were there at showcase to support the kids they coached 4 years ago! It was really special.

What a great group! http://arts.unco.edu/theatredance/showcase.html

@alibabba808, I’m not sure, but I just did a little sleuthing and I THINK our daughters worked together last summer. SUPER talented UNC girl!!! All the best to her!!!

Congrats to your girl @alibabba808! I can’t believe she’s graduating! Where does the time go? Graduating debt-free is a huge deal. So happy for her! By the way, about a month ago our girls discovered that they missed each other in NYC by a day! I’m sure that they’ll run into each other along the way in the years to come. Congratulations again . . . you have good reason to be proud!

@Calliene‌, so funny! I now know who you are and had the opportunity to see your talented daughter this summer! So funny, I have seen your posts over the years and now we have this personal connection!
As for you, @kksmom5‌, your daughter has a very bright future and I cannot wait to see how her career unfolds.
Thanks for reaching out ladies, and keep us all posted on what’s happening with your kids :-c
