Sideways (Paul Giamatti) is a Depressing Move

No ---- I disagree. We are talking about the same thing. There is very little product out there in the theaters. I can understand that if you are just seeing this movie after it has been out ten years that you are a bit backlogged in your choices and that makes it seem that there is a lot of product being made .
I usually don’t comment on your threads (ever since you lauded the Kardashians), but I love the films of Alexander Payne and thought…what the heck. Carry on.

LOVED Sideways. We got a kick out of how different the two main characters are: overly optimistic Jack and “neg head” Miles make an unlikely duo.

D2 and I are always quoting lines from this movie.

“What’s with all the hostility? You know, you CAN choose to be less hostile.”

I love wine so I loved “Sideways” and “Bottle Shock”. An amusing anecdote. I was out of town when this happened or perhaps I could have averted this. Our church Sunday school class decided to go see a movie. “Sideways” had gotten a lot of positive reviews at the time, however, the person in charge really didn’t look into it that much except to see that it was rated very highly. Of course the minister was invited to go with the class. She was given a pretty good ribbing about that for quite sometime due to some of the scenes. She to this day will not pick a movie to recommend to the class:)

I would loved to have had his Cheval Blanc (over 50% Merlot of course)

[Skip this if you intend to see the movie, then again, it was 11 years ago!]

I may be misremembering the ending, but doesn’t Virginia Madsen kind of leave the door open to a possible continuation of the relationship with him? Or is that just wishful thinking on my part . . .

Regarding product in the theaters, I disagree somewhat that there is very little of it, particularly in the large cities. If you consider the independent cinemas (such as the Regent Square in Pittsburgh, the Little Theatre in Rochester NY, and the Drexel Theater in Columbus OH) as well as the wonderful film programs that many universities have, I think there is still actually an opportunity to see lot of product up on the big screen. You have to be quick though. I’m still frustrated that I missed the film version of Murakami’s wonderful novel “Norwegian Wood,” when it came through a couple of years ago. It was here and gone in the blink of an eye.

thanks to that movie I am now a fan of pinot grigio!

I don’t remember pinot grigio ever being talked about.

Pinot noir was a major element…

oh whoops hick-up!

just looked up the scene I was thinking of haha

@rumrunner, that was the scene where my S said he was describing himself.

you just saw it?

He absolutely was describing himself in that scene.

Hard to believe it’s been ten years! I am a big fan of the movie. Thomas Haden Church shoulda won an academy award. And of course, my heart twitters whenever I see Virginia Madsen. What a woman! Mature, subtle and sharp!
