sigh...

So, surehands, where are you going?

PS. Chris, I forget your position at stony brook, but why have you decided to get involved in these online communities (facebook/cc/etc) lately? I imagine to promote the school or something along those lines? I think it is nice that you are taking the time to provide information about the school and to contend some of the complaints about the school. I was wondering how, or if, you are using some of this critique to address the issues raised by the members here.

It is a tough position to be in where you are trying to defend the school’s image amidst recurring censure. But at some point don’t you acknowledge that if the same grievances are being cited over and over by students, they must be well founded? As far as I know, the SUNY system is not going to be restructured anytime soon, so I don’t understand why the admistrative board wouldn’t want do something to address these issues, which have been around for years.

The main thing I see is the lack of school spirit and satisfaction with the services provided by the school. I know it’s unreasonable for a state school to become too selective, especially since sb is not a flagship school. But can’t there be a proficiency test to verify that TA’s are proficient in the language and perhaps more events over the weekends to maintain student interest? Also, the whole application feels very basic–there is no way to see verify the student’s writing–all you virtually need is a HS GPA.

I don’t know where I am going with this : )
