Silverturtle's Guide to SAT and Admissions Success

How did you get those 2008, 2009 and 2010 prep booklets on there website? I did a search on the search engine on there page, and I couldn’t find anything. Most of the search results was the page with the SAT Question of the day, sample practice questions, and a full free practice test, option to buy the book and online course.

^

Here you go:

This guide should be featured on the front page of CC’s home page and on every section of the Discussion Page. This summarizes almost EVERYTHING a high-schooler needs to know. Get this published b4 this fall man

Thanks silverturtle. Saved the PDF.

silverturtle, I know you’ve heard this a lot already, but this guide is amazing! You deserve to get into the college of your dreams. I was wondering how you came up with your technique for the CR passage questions. It seemed a lot like Noitaraperp’s way of doing them (mark each line reference really quickly and read the passage), but I was just curious. Did you try other techniques at first and then develop your own method? Or was it based off of Noitaraperp’s?

Here’s Noitaraperp’s guide on attacking the CR sections - http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/750399-how-attack-sat-critical-reading-section-effectively.html

I took my first SAT in January and got a 1970 (CR: 580, M: 720, W: 670). I’ve been taking several practice tests this summer but I haven’t seemed to be improving my CR score that much, so I’m probably going to try out your technique… thx for the help by the way

Before I started preparing, I read several CR guides online (one of which was Noitaraperp’s I believe). I experimented around with a lot of different techniques and settled on what I found to be the best combination.

Are those 2008-2009-2010 prep books legal to download? Since there real tests from the past?

Yes. If they weren’t, I would not have included them in the guide. They are released by the College Board specifically for the purpose of helping students to practice.

Damn, it’s too bad that I didn’t have this at my disposal earlier this year. Great work silverturtle!

Magnificent. Truly magnificent. I’ve already started seeing improvements in my practice tests (going from -4 on the writing section to -1). Your grammar guide covers, for the most part, all the info anyone would need to do really well on the Writing section and is better than any other grammar guide for the SAT that I have seen. Very nice and thorough.

I wish you success in your future, silverturtle. Your actions have surely helped many out there, including myself, have a more promising future. Thank you!

thank you very much for the details

Just got my first 80/800 on a practice PSAT. Very exciting. Thank you again for all your help silverturtle. :)

^Woops, meant 80/800 on Critical Reading.

What did you get before reading his guide LightSource?

Did you say you got a 2400 on your SAT? Will you be willing to tell us what universities you will be applying to, or got accepted to?

Yes.

I posted my tentative plans in the “Where are you applying?” thread on the HLS forum.

This is a wonderful resource, silverturtle. Thanks.

I usually got high 600s or low 700s on CR, and close to 800s or 800s on both Math and Writing. Silverturtle’s and Noitaraprep’s guides both helped a lot. :)

On that note, can someone help me with a Writing Question from the Wednesday 09 PSAT?

24. The arrival of swallows in San Juan Capistrano on the same day each spring fascinates scientists, who continue to search for an explanation of the phenomenon. No error

The correct answer is E (No error). Why isn’t the answer D (an explanation of the)? Shouldn’t the expression be: an explanation to the?

^ You do know my dark history with that question, right? I shivered when I saw it…
