Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

Sybbie…just wanted to pop in to tell you I was thinking of you today because I passed the exit for Dartmouth going to my daughter’s college ski race in NH and actually am going back to NH tomorrow to another one which will also take me past the Dartmouth exit. I kept thinking…I’m near Sybbie’s D…bet she wishes she were here. And then YOU, are near my other D. And so here is a funny one for YOU…I got home from NH and a little while later, my phone rings…it is the D in Manhattan. She is going to a concert at a club in NYC very near where she lives…she is going, actually, because the person (and her band) appearing is a hometown girl who is really making it…but anyway, she calls because she can’t recall the address of where on Broadway the place was and could I please google it and tell her the number (as she was walking on Broadway and hadn’t found it yet). Pretty funny to be called in VT to tell her where to go.

Susan

My DS & I are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Moller (sp?) Sky Car…just imagine the fun then! The holding patterns over Malls alone boggle the mind ;)

I think a few of the regular imbibers are hanging from the rafters of this den of iniquity by their hairy toes…every time the cash register rings there is a flutter up above…shhhhhh

Go out into the cold, cruel cyber world! No can do, daddy-o-sam! Besides, I’m busy making a “Shhhh, Mommy Sleeping” sign for SB, who is still napping under the tangerine booth. :slight_smile:

Hey, congrats, Mezzomom! I’ll drink to that. Always nice when Freeda, the financial aid fairy, drops by. Give that fairy a nectar cocktail served in a buttercup. Champagne cocktails for the rest of youz, my treat. TGIF! ;)

Sits up, scratches head, drinks an entire ice bucket full of cold water, lies back down

zzzzzzz

Just another day in the life of a parent.

I got one for you; I had to go to the Apple genius bar thurday night, which is on Prince street between Green and Mercer Streets (think about the Coles recreation center and keep walking down Mercer about 3 blocks after you cross W. Houston Street.

Mind you, I have a class in the mercer street building every week. I come out of the genius bar, call my sister on the phone because I could not figure out how to get to the subway.

She looks up a street map pn the internet tells me where to go, I end up then walking 4 blocks in the wrong direction. Imagine my shock when I realized that from prince and green the subway was only 2 blocks away on broadway.

My name is Sybbie and yes I am directionally challenged.

Pour me another one.

Aaah. I like it in here. They just started a Sophomore thread and I had to confess that I am the parent of a Sophomore and I am going to have to go through the application process all over again, this time without the benefit of fab ECs and not even an A- to mar the GPA. And, since said Sophomore really would be happiest at most challenging sort of school, I’m afraid for his own good we are going to have to urge him to prep for the SATs as he likes tests and they like him OK. Oh God. No! No! No!

I think I will just belly up to the bar here and not come out for six months. Do we have enough bar snacks? Go buy lemons so I don’t get scurvy!!!

OK, I’ve got under my arm the basket of lemons I just pulled off the tree out back, I’ll just squeeze in next to Alu here… Tomorrow evening TJFH and I start out on our California Dreamin’ driving tour of colleges that will probably act interested but will laugh when he pulls out his GPA. Then in early April, we get to do it all over again on the east coast.

Honey, I am SO gonna need a whole lotta doubles for the next year. Who’s pouring what this morning?

Moot - LOL and still chuckling. I will go and get the whiskey. I think we will have to be creative with the cocktails to make sure we get our nutrition. Hmm. Protein and cocktails. How to make that work?

Milk. Milk is a protein :p. Kahlua Milk Punch-adaptable to breakfast, brunch, dessert. Sluggbugg will undoubtedly show up with a customized recipe. Maybe sprinkle a few pulverized toasted nuts on top - more protein.

I had a 5th roommate one college summer. A true 5th wheel, poor dear. Four of us were joined at the hip, but needed a fifth, so advertised in the paper. We caught her flicking her cigarette ashes into someone’s drinking glass. She informed us that ash = protein. :rolleyes:

…another way to go.

Many years ago when I lived in Europe there were no screens on the windows anywhere. So at restaurants in the heat of summer the windows would be open.

We got our protein from the insects that went swimming in our wine glasses. Fortunately most of them were small enough to not require chewing!

Mootmom, too bad our spring breaks are at different times. Our two would probably be an entertaining duo on college visits. The admissions officer would probably call the basketball coach when she saw them walk in the door.

Hey y’all!

SoozieVT: my sister calls me from the Boston area to ask directions - it’s like - Babe, I live in the South! And I’m not a parent!

Kahlua and milk! My preferred variation: Equal parts Starbuck’s liqueur (much superiour to Kahlua), Bailey’s, Frangelico, and half n half. Add chocolate shavings. Or hazelnuts.

Yummy, aries. But we may have to step down from the half n half to milk. For nutritions’s sake. Protein, you know. Or perhaps the hazelnuts could suffice.

Venetian Lemonade

lemon sherbet
vanilla ice cream
vodka
limoncello
lemon juice
grated lemon peel to garnish.

Not sure exactly how to make this but it comes out like a very thick milkshake and you drink it wil a straw. It is DIVINE. There must be trace amounts of protein in vanilla ice cream, right? Keeps scurvy at bay as well.

Yeah, protein… isn’t that what nachos & chicken wings are for?

Hey y’all! Fruit is good for you too, so I am lugging in a bottle of midori!!! We can make some United II’s…yummy! Did y’all know that I was a bartender way back when?? My famous specialty was INCREDIBLE Pina Coladas!! Have a seat, and I’ll send some around!

~berurah

Yes! Pina coladas. The sine qua non of nutrition drinks. Fruit, coconut milk (protein, surely :rolleyes: ) Little umbrellas.

Waaaah, allergic to coconut milk, no p.c.'s for me.

Is there enough lemon in a lemon drop to qualify as a serving of “fruit”?

One Pina for SluggS’s brief encounter with bleach blondness this weekend…A tall Starbuck’s liqueur, Bailey’s, Frang and cream for his return to F

Bonus with berurah as our barrista… it’s all kosher!

Yeah, the Venetian Lemonade just might get me through this. Mootmom, please send dispatches from the front on your trip with TJFH. Somehow I think that young man would make good company here in the Alley.

Mootie, how did you get TJFH to sacrifice a long weekend and go on this trip with you? This is a multiple choice answer:

A. Duct tape and rope;
B. Kept telling him that the Buckhorn Grill is around here somewhere;
C. Bribed him with iTunes gift cards at every stop;
D. You drove, he continued his quest for Level 60 in Warcraft;
D. Progress report? Fuhgeddaboutit! Ain’t no big f*#kin’ deal!
F. Spring Break came early this year, and you’re on your way to Cabo! :p
