Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

m&sdad~ What a great daddy!!! I did the camping dealio for my son’s first laptop on the day after Thanksgiving three years ago. In fact, his sisters went with me. Haven’t done it since…lol Any hints on staying warm just in case I succumb this year???

Alu and mommusic~ Thanks gals!! The play is officially over, but I’m off to KC tomorrow to take my middle son (13) to a DUKE GAME!!! Our FIRST!

Funny story… I get this email today from him (of course I’m in the next room from him, so that was amusing enough, though I have been known to chat with my middle daughter as she’s sitting on the couch behind me…lol) that has a Powerpoint attachment. Didn’t know he knew how to USE Powerpoint??

We had told him that even though the Blue Devils were playing three hours away from us that we were TOO busy getting ready for Thanksgiving to go to the game, and besides, it was kind of expensive… So, son creates this Powerpoint documenting his “disappointment” and offering a cogent argument for why this little excursion would have been a great “cultural experience” for him! lol Also, he said that he would have paid it back in “chores.”

Dang, I’m easy! Three minutes later I’m trying to get some last-minute tickets. And I was successful! So, off tomorrow to KC for the Duke game in the CBE semifinals! Now, to get that chore list formulated… :D

~berurah

b…congrats to your D on her lead role well done. And congrats to you for getting out of that week without an assault record!

Prayers to mini and Ellen too, eh?

S2 nearly finished all apps! Sent out for editing. God bless the UCAS app–six UK schools, one online app, one essay, one rec. Presto!

Now to send out supplements, Records of Learning and recs to RD US schools…but first, 80 year old Korean client coming in from overseas  ! Is he here to give the go-ahead on $33M tower? Mmmmmm…I hope so!

hey cheers!

WOW, your S2 is really on the ball!!! How fabulous that he is nearly done with his apps. I remember this time two years ago…we were in a MAJOR panic mode!

Here’s hoping the $33M tower is a go…can’t imagine anyone’s being more charming than you, so I may just have to wager on this… ;)

Who says I did? Actually, so many people went after that crazed woman that the only thing I had to do was to sit back and watch the show! Still, guess who was RIGHT next to us in the front row on closing night???

MAJOR prayers and well wishes for mini and Ellen… I’ve been pretty much reeling from the news since I read it. What a perspective infuser…sigh

~berurah

LOL…he’s not on the ball…he’s about to graduate and I don’t want to have to try to corral him after graduation! That’s a fate worse than getting caught by the Indecent Bra Strap Patrol!

ACK!!! You’re right!! Didn’t realize he was DONE!!! I don’t suppose those marmots are any good at college apps???

As pre-teen boys we eliminated the visible bra strap issue by snapping those things as required. It was also a great way to start a foot race competition.

Would that help? ;)

My S better not have been camping out in Pittsburgh for any type of video game console this week. Even through I don’t think that the cold would have really bothered him. Him and his roommates bought a 42" HD DLP TV last year. He bought them out this summer. Hopefully he has replenished his saving account this term while on co-op.

ber–your son is very resourceful!

The D of friends prepared a powerpoint presentation on something she wanted very badly–don’t remember what it was now, but I was amazed.

Only one of my kids would have done that. He argued so much and so well I swore he was going to be a lawyer some day. Still might, but he’s just an undergrad yet.

Massmom,

If your S went HDTV, he is probably holding out for the more feature laden, and more expensive, Playstation3 :)

Did this happen to predate the “burn the bra” era?? True drive and motivation behind the shedding! ;)

Methinks the boys of old handled it better than the “mom of now.” She just went ballistic and told my D off…and then tattled to boot! :(

THAT was WHY I ended up buying the tickets!!! This son was my LEAST likely kid to EVER do this. I could see my oldest son doing it, my middle D, my youngest D, but NOT this kid! I was truly impressed with his presentation, which contained pictures on every page, along with VERY logical “arguments” and just the right mix of VERY light chastising and self-pity. At the end, he told me to “have a good day” and that he’d see me shortly. Hee hee!

Funny thing about this kid…he has EVERY adult in his life totally WRAPPED. What he didn’t get naturally in the “book smart” area, he has a bajillion times over in EQ and people skills. Teachers fall all over themselves fawning on him, other parents think he’s the cat’s meow, kids completely look up to him. He’s got this amazing mixture of vulnerability, self-deprecation, leadership skills (I know, these things don’t normally go together…), and a mischievous smile that can take your breath away. :D

I have NO doubts as to his future success! :)

BTW, my kid who was BIG on arguing-as-sport (and fabulous at it to boot) from a young age IS planning on law school!

~ber

p.s. mommusic~ No painted on eyelashes those…they were “real” fakes! With rhinestones! :D

And my 20 year old (as of day after Xmas) has also said the Wii is his only desire.

So, we’re starting to cover all of the age bases. Anyone got a 20+ year old, 30-something or 40-something with the Wii as his wish list?

Personally, I’m counting my blessings that it was the Wii, not the PS3. And I’ve told him no sleeping outside Wal-marts for me. So I’m just going on blind faith and hope that I’ll be able to snag one of these babies sometime after the Black Friday shopping frenzy. Picture me walking into Best Buy/Circuit City/Wal-mart/Target/Toys R Us and just breezing over to the egames aisle and blithely pulling one off the shelf. Ya gotta believe.

or should I corral a marmot?

Nice thing about the Wii is that it comes with a game, so it is useful out of the box. Both other console require the additional cost of one game.

JMmom, I had the chance to get two at Target, but am not keen on the ebay gouging approach; had I known of your interest, I would have taken the pay it forward approach.

My youngest prepared a powerpoint to ask for a horse. The presentation was great but no deal!

I made the mistake of reading “You Can Negotiate Anything” when DD was in-utero, she is the ultimate ‘Russian Negotiator’…

I usually have to skim half-way down her list before I get to the serious possibilities :)

My S is making enough on co-op to pay his rent and other living expenses. I pay tuition, car insurance, and will give him rent money for the spring. He is extremely frugal, and more stubborn than I am. Given that he is making about what I did when I graduated with a BS in Engineering (and with considerable less expense), was hoping he had saved some money towards rent in the spring. What ever happened to the poor college student? I wouldn’t be surprised if he went out and bought the $600 PS3. Youngest is too cheap, and it is beyond our budget for holiday gifts. We’ll see.

I am sending an early Thanksgiving Greeting to everyone including the marmots and crew since I will be away. A cyber toast to all!

Off to Baltimore as we speak.

Remember, it’s all about portion control…

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
(raises cup of something with cranberry juice in)

This week we go from one child at home to 4 children, one married! Big pot of veggie soup already made, plans laid for Turkey Day feast…

It’s sobering to think someday grandchildren will be added to the mix!

Happy Thanksgiving! I am attempting to make an apple pie today, which I haven’t done for a few years. Wish me luck, I think I’m gonna need it . . . Then, later on, I am going to try out that Cosmo recipe that was posted here some time ago, because it has cranberry juice in it, and cranberries are a Thanksgiving thing, right?

mstee-
Where’s that cosmo recipe?? I’d love to try it out!
