Ooh, ooh, moi aussi. I want an online link to Slugg the Famous. We don’t have many Newsweeks floating around down here in Mexico. :(

Jym626 – There is no outside link to SL profiles, so I can’t provide you with a link. A picture did not appear in the article because we haven’t unveiled her, yet. That will happen if and when we arrange for the real Madame Speaker to visit SL Capitol Hill. :)

I can’t find that Newsweek page online, jmmom et al., sorry… but I’ll scan a copy to send to anyone who wants it. :)

Here’s the link to the Newsweek article.

Wow, Slugg, that’s so cool!

Ooh, Sluggie- when can we see her???

Does her avatar bat it’s eyes, repeatedly, too? ;)

Thanks for the link Slugg! I’m impressed.

Just call her Sluggosi. :)

Congrats, Slugg - I will look forward to seeing her!!

Groovy Slugg!

Lol - yes, P2N! Actually, she does blink her eyes thanks to a clever script built into her skin. This is the way that things work in Second Life. :)

If anyone has an avatar in SL and wants to check out her profile, just send me a PM.

Thanks for posting the link, Patsmom. :)

That’s cool about being in Newsweek sluggbugg…I just want to know how people manage a “second life”…I can barely keep up with the first one! phew…must be something extra in their drinks at that end of the bar!

weenie- I’m an ex-Rochesterian- saw on the news about the thruway being closed down due to whiteout…only they called it the I 90 “freeway”…little did they know that it is not “free”. I used to drive to work in Rochester from Canadaigua in that stuff. You really haven’t lived on the edge until you’ve driven 40 miles in whiteout conditions, navigating by the tail lights and tracks in the snow of the car in front off you, this in broad daylight.

age? don’t complain about being 50, it could be far worse…I’m coming up on “double nickels” in August.
cheers!

Fascinating, sluggbugg.

I have some sluggtales to catch up on before I go wandering off into another virtual reality.

Congrats on the cite. :D

wecandothis:

:D Funny - but true. Ahhh…San Diego!
Sounds good right now. We are pretty snowed in (got 17 inches last night on top of probably about that much) and the roads out here near the lake are really bad because it’s very cold. But, alas, there are kids sledding in the park and I’ve shoveled my little dogs some pathways in the backyard. And we really thought we were going to have a winter with 60 degree days! Fat chance.

well, I just posted a paragraph or two, but then was told I wasn’t logged on ( I was too!) and to refresh and repost…so it was all lost; anyone else having this happen?

nothing like losing your post to boil it down to its essence

weenie: oh yes, good old “lake effect” snow…one of those polite weather euphemisms for " you’re gonna get dumped on, big time". well, it could be picturesque if you’re by the fire with a hot toddy and no particular place to go …

telemarketers? put them on hold…indefinitely

wecandothis…the not logged on thing happens a lot… I just “cut”, log off,on, and “paste”. Still a pain but i don’t lose posts.

Okay, give me a double Mimosa. My daughter is taking the SAT today, and I messed up on the alarm clock! Woke up suddently at 7:20, and we’d planned to leave at 7:15, to have plenty of time to get lost on the community college campus. I woke her up, threw on some clothes, and rushed downstairs to make her the Good Breakfast I’d planned, an Egg McMuffin sort of thing. She comes down, says she doesn’t need more breakfast than the spare granola bar. 'No, no, you should have some protein, dear. You can just eat the ham or egg if you want." We fly out of the house at 7:32, and I judiciously speed off to the CC. I’m reasonably familiar with the campus, and this is where the children went to very early preschool for a couple of years, and I know where the secret parking lot is that gets you right in the middle of things. She goes ahead and eats whole eggy delight, and it’s a good thing, too, because this test goes until 1pm! Who knew? I thought it was over about 12, tops.

We gently screech into the parking lot at 7:47, and I know we’re not the last to arrive, as zombie high schoolers are making their way through the mist across the lawn. And the signage is good, so we know just where to go. Turns out they don’t even start registering until 8am, so we could have a been a bit calmer about the whole thing. So there we are in the milling mob and run into her favorite teacher from middle school, there with her son. We have a nice chat and relax. Her pencils are sharpened, and she’s good to go. And she had a Good Breakfast.

omg moomin-- your piece almost brings tears to my eyes…been there, done that and you just describe this whole rite of passage (for both mom and child) so perfectly…loved the Good Breakfast bit!! LOL Because we all know that you are not a Good Mother unless you provide that Good Breakfast and still leave insanely early to allow for any and all unforeseen circumstances, acts of God, and the like! In our case, this all attempted when we were both not particularly even awake, as neither of us are morning people. It was ironic that it was where your d had gone to preschool…

your story was particularly moving to me because we are done with that phase now, and I guess your depiction made me feel a bit nostalgic about Jr year now that my d is a senior with 3 admissions and 2 scholarships in her pocket so far!

it was all worth it, even the Good Breakfast thing at 6 am on a Sat.

the mimosa sounds like a fitting reward for you…have one on me!

Congrats to our cyber famous sluggie. Woo hoo! She goes into cyber space where no woman has previously dared to go! First SL millionaire? Could be. She’s a legend around these parts. She has that cyber seduction thing down pat. Herstory in the making. Fun to hear about…

moomin…great story…I picked up my S2 last fall at 1pm–threw two GHLATs at him (grilled ham. lettuce, avacado and tomato) and raced over to the soccer field where his team was getting slaughtered because they were playing without their keeper! I remember that day so well. He woofed down the sandwich, stripped and changed into his goalie kit–with H and I grilling him about the test. Then he hopped out and trotted onto the muddy field and saved the game–as usual. One of those penultimate high school mornings.

moomin: That’s like that Seinfeld episode where Jean-Paul oversleeps for the Olympics! Yikes! One SAT my kid got to and didn’t have his registration form. They kindly took it over the phone…

Here’s my tip for the Good Breakfast…A Coke! Caffeine is good for sharpening brains. (Oh I’m such a bad mother.)
