Belly me up to the bar for that St. Patty’s Day beer. DS is dealing with drama over next year’s roommates…I swear, sometimes the boys are worse than the girls!

Mathmom, sorry to hear of the disappointing outcome at MIT. Your son’s stats are OUTSTANDING and his results are another indicator that it’s a jungle out there! Extremely qualified kids get rejections from these elite schools and it is par for the course but it still makes ya really wonder. However, my feeling is that someone who is very qualified like your son is, will get into some schools. When admit rates are soooo low at these elite schools, some work in their favor, some don’t but odds are that SOME will work out. You just can’t tell which ones. Much luck on the impending notifications.

Bummer…

Sorry to hear about MIT and kids stranded in differnt parts of the country over what is supposed to be spring break (there is nothing that remotely resembles spring in NYC today).

However, leave it to sluggie to give us a good St. Patty’s day laugh. For you, I’ll even drink a green beer as we patiently wait on Bethie who is having a birthday today and creeping up on her 1000th post.

Hi, I’m here! Having a nice quiet birthday at home. A little early in the day for the green beer, maybe a green gin and tonic later in the day. In a few hours I can check the mailbox and risk further disappointment.

Soozie did you get another foot of snow like we did? Happy shovelling!!

Bethie

Bethie,
Yes, we got a new foot of snow just when mud season was really roaring. Now, I hear another five inches is expected in the next wave.

I don’t shovel. We pay for plowing of our driveway (um…I don’t live where you shovel driveways!). Hubby shovels walk to front door. He started the day with skiing and is now at work up in your neck of the woods.

D2 still stranded alone all weekend in Dallas with no luggage!

Mathmom - sorry to hear 'bout that - he’ll find his place at another school, but I’m sure the denial hurts. You need a green Margueritas for sure. I know I need one!!! (1:00 p.m. - isn’t that c-o-c-k-tail hour?) ![]()
And Dallas  - well at least Soozievtdd won’t need much of in the way of winter clothes!

Anxiousmom, you are right that she doesn’t need winter clothes in Dallas. She didn’t have winter clothes with her anyway as she was coming from Palm Springs where it was in the 90s the entire week! Right now, however, she’d like to have ANY clothes.

Her luggage supposedly is heading at some point this weekend to NYC, not the same airport she is to fly into tomorrow night (hopefully) and I just really hope this luggage is delivered to her dorm in Manhattan. That’s the plan. I hope it comes through.

Happy Birthday Bethie! Cheers to sucky weather!

Pooh on MIT, Mathmom. Where he lands will be 12 times better! They don’t know what they’re missing. As for weather, we just got done chipping out the driveway (and I do mean chip–there’s about 4 inches of ice down there) but while we were out there, our next door neighbor came with a keg, then came over to help and invited us over for green beer tonight! :)!

I’ll join you anxious with one of those green margaritas!

All the stranded students- what a mess! If you have American Express check out their travel interruption insurance. One event like you have right now and it would pay for itself.

We’ve had UC acceptances rolling in all week…d is “climbing the ladder”…in at UCSC, UCSB, UCD, and UCI…next up is UCSD, then UCLA, then UCB! The suspense of it all! We sure do not lack for choices here.

Thinking of that old song by the Lovin Spoonful “Did You Ever Have to Finally Decide? To Say yes to One and Let the Other Ones Ride?” (sometimes these songs from the 60’s just creep into my brain, totally uninvited…)

weenie-- oh the joys of Rochester in March, that is where my d was born…her 18th birthday is Mon. 3/19…I remember well bringing home that tiny bundle who was born in an ice storm that made for such a lovely scene from my hospital window at Strong’s birthing center…and then the gale force winds that blew away the big stork sign we had on out front porch the day we brought her home; fond memories ![]()
Then 2 years later on 3/26/91 my son was born right after THE REALLY BIG ICE STORM that ate the northeast; remember that one?

Now out here in CA, the only weather factor in March is a bit of rain that can often dampen outdoor birthday party plans

Happy St Pat’s to all!

March always puts us right over the edge. Yesterday I could see our grass. Today I was out shoveling poop paths for the dogs. Not good.

Hang in there mathmom. It all works out. But building character sucks.

You deserve your own special laugh courtesy of the Mids.

Hang in there

Sorry about the stranded daughter soozie and MIT mathmom. Maybe what he ends up with will be an even better fit.

Definitely not Engineer material, LFWB. But ample experience now as charwomen, or is it swabbies?

Another disappointing trip to the mailbox. After he got that early write, I thought things would be trickling in, but that was Feb 26 and nothing since.

March is the LONGEST month -definitely!

I agree a.m…we have FA packages arriving, and we don’t even have the last admissions decision yet! It’s all making my head spin. Ugh!

Basketball isn’t the only reason for march madness.

bethie,

Congrats on hitting the big 1000

tossing confetti

bethie - from another mailbox stalker (albeit a couple of years ago). It is a good thing that it is us moms and not our sons. We have Sinners Alley. They don’t. :p

JMmom,

Congratulations on SA post 6000!
