Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

CONGRATULATIONS! It is so great to hear terrific news! Very happy for your son, Mootmom. He might drive ya nuts going to the bathroom at a time like this but hey, the outcome is wonderful!

I could use some good news.

Alu and weenie-
Sheesh- you werent kidding about that thread of 'mudges. Tried to poke a little funover there and people got venemous. Hostility is oozing out of my monitor. I PM’ed the person who felt they were being made fun of to apologize if he/she felt so, and she shot back a nasty response. Gee wilikers. Don’t people have anything better to do with their time???
OK , rant over.

Soozievt- when it rains it pours. Amazing how dependent we are on our technology. At least your H backed up most of the stuff on daus computer, and her uncle was available in the area to help. Good luck with all that. My s (pre-broken leg) accidentally dropped his laptop off hus bunk. Not a pretty site…

I am off to work-- my associate want to fire our secretary/front office person ( who has been incompetent and shows up only about 70% of the time). Gotta go deal with that too. Sigh… Another day, another dollar…

. Okay, well, I guess that was before you routed out the sketchy marmot food. 'splainin why they were not on the job.

soozie, soozie, soozie - there is a serious mechano-electronic karma problem in that kid’s aura. I see sharpened pencils and yellow-lined legal pads in her future.

I hope everyone has a better day today. It has been one crisis per day for me lately!

It is made more frustrating now as we have no phone contact with our daughter. My husband ran into the Mac specialist this morning on the way to work who said that my D’s data should be retrievable. He said the Apple store may end up telling her she needs a new computer when he knows he can fix it (this is part of his business). We had bought computer insurance and my husband spoke to them and they said they just need to talk to the computer store before they fix it. Of course we have no way to contact our kid. I had asked her to let us know what happened today but I have no clue if she will think to call FROM the store, on top of the fact she has no phone to do so, unless she asks to use their phone (we have an 800 number). I know she will have to rush back to her part of the city for class. The problem is compounded by the fact that this major paper was due today and she has no access to her work and I hope the professor will believe her and hopefully she got some documentation at the Apple place. I’ve had enough of this stuff for a while!

Jym…the situation at work is stressful even though you have to do something about it. It is not pleasant. Good luck.

Okay, I know it’s midmorning, but I may have to start drinking after waking up to realize I have made a total fool of myself over in the thread from Heck. (she says, slamming into the booth in the corner in embarrassment.)

Have I not alienated anyone?

What goes down good at 10:30 the morning after you have thrown an incoherent hissy fit?

Hey, incoherent hissy fits are better than coherent ones that everyone remembers and can quote for months to come:).

Oik. What’s in the air these days? Is it just the stress of the coming final round of admissions results? Is it marmots? Is it tax time?

BTW, soozie, my D has had several computer events just like this. The computer support group at her school has been really helpful. And the professors quite understanding. Computer malfunctions after all happen to everyone, even grownups:). All may work out just fine.

Hay garland-
I didn’ think you made a fool of yourself over there. I jumped in with some silliness and promptly got my a$$ chewed, so I am outta there, til I feel like I want some more abuse. Dontcha just love it when they come across all sanctimonius in the thread and then send nasty PMs where no one can see?? Grrrr.

soozievt- Hang in there, your d is resourceful. I am sure she’ll borrow a friends phone and give you a holler. Good thing the data is retrievable. Thanks for the support about or office challenge. It is never fun to have to let someone know they are not up to muster.

And mootie-- CONGRATS! At least someone is having some good news. Spread it around!

If it makes you feel any better garland, I didn’t see you make a fool of yourself. I missed it.

S2 hopefully arrived in London this morning, safe and sound. S1’s professor agreed to be his advisor for his senior thesis. It’s all good in the Empty–Next!!

Go Mootson!

Hey home peeps.

I did read through mudges, thread and it can send your head spinning (no drinks needed for that one).

Soozie, in the words of the late roseann roseannadanna; Well Jane it’s always something. If it’s not one thing it’s another. Boy do these little adventures help to keep you on your toes ( or are out kids trying to give us a beautiful head of grey hair and the feel that nature needs a little help?)

Mootie, I think TSFH, is trying to get us to change is monogram or else he’s been fronting on us. But here we are calling him out on full blast…

Congratulations TSFH!!!

Garland, I haven’t touched that thread and I’m realizing now that I am glad!

Alu…my older D just had her computer crash two weeks ago and also it happened last year too.

Problem with younger D is for one thing, she has no phone which is compounding the problem. Also, that her paper is on the computer and due today, let alone everything else she needs that is on it. Plus in the communications age, without phone or email, it is problematic.

I had hoped she’d find a way to call from the computer store and ask to use their phone. She did not.

She called after getting off the subway in Union Square where she lives and went to a pay phone. We wanted to talk to her while at the store because my husband was told by the local Mac specialist that it is highly likely it can be fixed and also the data would be retrievable as well. The insurance people said it was covered and they had to talk to Apple before they started the repair. D knew none of this as it happened so late last night.

She said the store told her that insurance doesn’t cover it. They said it would cost $1200. They said it would take 48 hours to retrieve and couldn’t say if data was retrievable and then a week more to fix. She chose not to leave it.

So, what is happening is that our local Mac specialist can fix it for less and in less time, and it is insured as we have a rider on this sort of thing. D had to miss a class, go and pay to ship it insured overnight to the local Mac dealer (this past week is costing me a fortune on top of D1’s computer data retrieval, rebuilt hard drive and shipping from CO to RI two weeks ago and D2’s expenses for a weekend stranded in Dallas hotel due to airline cancellations!). The local person said he can get the data off it right away and email her the paper in the meantime and then fix the computer quickly and ship the computer back to NYC. We’re in Vermont.

D was able to get a statement from the Apple store on their letterhead to show the professor this afternoon. Fingers crossed. It so happens that D1 is traveling to visit her sister from Friday to Monday (and then onto CA for break) and so will bring her laptop so sister can have email and also hopefully receive this paper and put finishing touches on it and email it to her professor…that is the ideal plan for now. Older D’s stitches came out and she says she is able to write, type and get back to drawing, thankfully. I hope this is the end of these mishaps for a few days at least.

Good news for your sons, cheers.

Berurah, I WAS getting more grey hairs and so had that taken care of last week, a day before all these little crisises reared up again. I may need a touchup after the past six days however!

Sorry to hear about the computer stress, soozie!

Congrats, Mootmom!!!

soozie

So sorry about al your kids" troubles. Sounds like they have trheir health though.

Garland

Try a Southern Comfort Manhattan with a twist. I haven’t visited the thread from Heck for a few hours. Guess it’s time to drop in!

Bethie, I totally agree that none of these trials and tribulations compare to health issues. While older D got stitches two weeks ago and it impeded her being able to do work, it was a far better situation than her having a ski accident (the mishap occurred when she was in CO at national championships). I have had a child in a very precarious situation with her life after a car crash two years ago and I must say it was far worse than any of these other crisises! I hope to never experience that again.

S
It still seems like too many real life stresses have been coming your way lately. Here’s to a better spring!

WATER?! MILK?! Alright, I’ll chalk this crazy talk up to licking your fingers while serving our resident Sinner dog, Bart (Bar with a “t”), his bowl of Iams cuts 'n gravy for fat and lazy hounds. Tainted dog food must have caused a wave of temporary insanity.

Debbie, our new bartender, has just whipped up a batch of coconut rum smoothies. Have a seat in the Mudge Booth. Whine all you want! In here, we know the difference between an intellectual discussion and a good old-fashioned cat fight over who knows the most useless crap about college. I’ll take you Alley rats any day over the uptight orifices found in the Forum.

I started out there, three…no, five years ago. How did I end up in this joint, anyway? I vaguely remember staggering in here. I think I was sleep-deprived and quite possibly ****ed off at somebody. ;)

Slugg, that was exactly what I needed to hear! :)

Slide a coconut rum smoothie this way!

slugg–No, we gave the milk to the kids. And the water was just for people in those lovely massage chairs. Wouldn’t want anyone to get, um, seasick.

Now bring on the coconut rum smoothies!

hellooooo…

Since I just graduated to “member” status, I thought I’d timidly visit and see what the fun was all about in here…

A couple of days ago, I foolishly entered the bizarre thread you are all referring to. I must be really missing something, but what the heck…? When people start getting all snarky with each other, it makes me laugh…I mean, people… get a grip!
