Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

They don’t have them here :(

Right: no In & Out on the east coast, no Dunkin Donuts on the west. We live on one and have kids in college on the other. Can’t have everything, I guess! (“Where would you put it?”)

No Dunkin Donuts on the west coast?!? When did that happen, anyway? I was driving up the main N-S street in Spokane just this morning and pointed out a spot that used to be a DD. Hmmm, this may require a change in plans. My cleaning lady’s husband commented not long ago that his favorite food when they visited the states was DD, so I was going to stop by for fresh donuts for him and freeze them in hopes that would give them a better chance of being tasty after 20+ hours in my suitcase. I’m leaving the country from Denver, so I’ll have to see what I can find, and substitute Krispy Kreme if necessary.

I definetly feel jipped without the IN & Out, but I don,t think I could survive wihtout Dunkin! And Krispys always good 12 seconds in micro:D

Donuts are my favorite food!!!

We get commercials for Sonic on the local cable channels here – but the nearest one is a 3.5 hour drive away. TORTURE!!!

We always hit the Wienerschitzel when we are in CA…can’t get those dogs on the East Coast!

DH and DS1 took a shortcut through Canada on their five day Spring Break college tour and had to pass by all the Tim Horton’s because it was Passover…I heard the moans and groans from here! (and they were questioned at the border because they didn’t stop to get anything to eat…)

ReneeV-
Depending on which kind of donuts you/your cleaning lady’s h like, Krispy Kremes are better than Dunkin Donuts. This is particularly true for the glazed. Get them hot off the rack if you can (watch for the red light on in the window). Yummmm!!!

4giggles-
I didn’t know about 12 sec in the microwave (and I think I wish I didn’t know this!!) Ironic that we are talking about Burgers and donuts and Sonic (which isn’t all that good, Countingdown- you aren’t missing much except for the concept of ordering from/eating in the car-- which is the definition of any drive-thru, come to think of it). Anyway, I digress - we are talking hi cal junk food here, while there is (1) a fierce debate about obesity and diet and (2) an exercise support thread in this forum. I love irony! Pour me a cosmo, please. Is that fattening?

Hey moominmama-
Congrats on having post #7400!! We hardly pay attention to that anymore!

Nothing is fattening in the Alley.

Just so long as no one ever even SUGGESTS marmot-burgers. They are a protected species here.

When I was in high school (in the dark ages), we sold hot Krispy Kremes during break to raise money for several of us to attend Presidential Classroom. We were fortunate to have a Krispy Kreme bakery in our town. We would sell 30 dozen boxes in literally 10 minutes!

I get hypnotic when I eat the hot glazed ones…they melt in your mouth so quickly it’s as if you didn’t eat anything…and I completely lose count… I continue to maintain this is the Honest Truth: If they go down your gullet that fast, there are no calories!

Oh, yeah, we’ve hit K Kreme more than once on this trip already, and I think it will be an acceptable substitute. I believe I’ve mentioned I work on an Air Force base in Germany. Well, one of the HS clubs I sponsored had the best fundraiser ever–the dad of one of the students was bringing over an almost empty cargo plane and cut a deal with KK for a hefty discount and brought us 350 DOZEN donuts, which we sold for $9/dozen profit (and sold out!). Sometimes there’s nothing like the taste of home.

You all are making me hungry with all this food talk, and I just had Arby’s for lunch (gotta get those things while I can). I think we’re going out for Mexican again tonight–although we have fabulous ethnic restaurants in our area, that’s one thing that isn’t worth eating unless I cook it myself. We went to the Chi-Chi’s in Luxembourg City not long ago and their version of frijoles was cold pork 'n beans!

Ooo, 7400, a sorta significant number! Thanks for pointing that out, jym. My next personal goal is to rise above junior member status.

You are almost there, moominmama. Gotta go post in the “real” threads, though, not in the cafe. We don’t get any CC “credit” for hangin’ out here.

California seems to a donut free zone as far as I can tell.

Dunkin’ Donuts, which I used to love w-a-a-y-y-y back in the day… ptui. Sheesh, lots of times they’re stale at 8:00 in the a.m. Now, if you find yourself in Portland, Maine… go to Toný’s Donuts. Not a chain. Splendiferous.

In & Out has a secret menu?!? Do tell.

Don’t read this or this if you want to be surprised when you order your fries “animal style” at your next trip to In & Out.

And I checked: the closest Dunkin Donuts to us is in … Arizona. Can’t stand Krispy Kremes, though, so I’m outta luck with the doughnut chains around here.

I love In & Out, seems to me either you are a person who loves then or doesn’t care for them. Love a protein double double w/grilled onions. Grew up eating at the first one. Son likes to take out-of-state classmates to a last meal at In & Out before they return home. My PA brother in law cannot go a day w/o Dunkin Donuts coffee-guess that’s why he hasn’t visited us in a while.

Mootmom, I think I’ll skip the animal style fries but the fries well done seems worth a try next time my 13 yr. old In & Out addict forces me to go over there . . . Starbucks, In & Out and Jamba Juice are her favorites.

Don’t have In & Outs here, but we do have White Castles. I don’t eat there but some people are addicted to the rather tiny but (they say) tasty burgers with onions. Sliders, they call them.

And I am drooling all over MY keyboard, reading about Krispy Kremes and Dunkin Donuts. That’s what I get for getting up early & checking on the Alley. Better go take a cold shower to clear my head. ;)

Hanging out at Spokane International Airport and browsing the local paper for the last time. Here’s another excerpt from the column I told y’all about----

"Marmot Lodge update: The deadline for becoming a charter member is July 28. (Just contact The Slice.)

Meantime, I suggest we insert the word “marmots” into song lyrics. I’ll start, rewriting the early '70s Yes classic, “Roundabout.”

In and around the lake

Marmots come out of the sky and they

Stand there"

My first thought was a slight variation of a Captain and Tenille song, “Marmot Love,” but I’m sure someone can do better than that!

mootmom, thanks for the info on “animal style”. Sounds pretty yummy . . . does “spread” mean mayo, or some sort of secret sauce?

Your basic double secret probation Thousand Island, I think…
