Hahaha-- no rest for the weary, eh mowc? Try to relax and get well. I wil be heading out of town tomorrow to deal with issues with an aging parent. Will be thinking of you!

wbow - Hogan. Perfect. :D

love Hogan.

You will be his Heroes.

Sorry. ;)

I believe a hogan is also a Navajo dwelling. Bringing back another kid’s book of genius, A House is a House for Me.

Actually Jessica the Hippo looks somewhat like a horizontal Moomintroll.

hogan, as in ben hogan…

he has been groomed and bathed today and he looks even better (and cooler) than before!

the invisible fence man is coming later today…the previous owners had one installed, so we might as well take advantage of it.

vet appointment is on monday.

i will post a link to a picture shortly…well, that might mean a day or two!

Pour me a double, please. Have lots, LOTS to do to help my dad, who is more fragile than I realized. He has a geriatric case manager who is supposed to be handling all the things I am facing, but she is very ill (we are about to make a change, sadly, as it is just too much for her). I am finding checks (dividend checks) that were never deposited into his account and are now too old (I will have to call and see if they will reissue them), MOUNDS of filing of bills and assorted and sundry paperwork, the house is in serious disrepair (it didnt look this bad last time I was here) and I don’t know if a leaky shower pan (I am guessing it is something like that- but the house is over 60 yrs old-- dont know how they built shoers)causing ceiling damage below, or a leaky roof/attic causing yet more ceiling problems elsewhere will be covered under his homeowners insurance. Anyone have any idea? Otherwise we are going to have serious financial issues to deal with. This is pretty overwhelming. Tomorrow we get to wade through all this stuff in order to get his taxes done. And a fun time was had by all…

Jym,

You have my sympathies. A few years back W’s dad had a massive heart attack and died. We found checks he has signed and given out with just his signature on them, nothing else; other written in pencil; and no will, although he assure us he had it all taken care of.

Took us years to clear everything up…

Thanks, m&s.

It is hard to watch a parent age and become helpless and dependent. But he won’t move out of this area- he wants to stay here. So we come up to visit and try to manage this. My sibling is little help. Thank heavens I have a wonderful spouse with great financial management skills. Well, I’d best get back to all that. And sorry about your fa in law. I just lost mine a month ago. We thought he had things in more order than he did, but my s-i-l lived with and took care of him, so it is under pretty good control. I had a challenge to deal with when my mom passed away and my dad fell apart a few years ago. I though I had everything arranged, but when his case manager fell ill, I guess she was able to handle less than I thought, and things are unfortunately a victim of benign neglect… Oh well, have to get back to it. Thanks for the kind words…

Aw. Jym. That is pretty rocky. My parents have just begun to talk about looking into assisted living arrangements. My stepfather is looking, and said to my mother, Alugranny, “No. I would not like to see you there,” after he saw one place. He is clearly assuming he will go first and he is looking for somewhere where she will be OK when he is gone.

Clearly this is the next phase for all of us.

Somehow it feels right to raise our glasses to your dad. What, if anything, did he drink? If nothing, we will get some soda pop and pop the top.

Somehow summer is the time of “discovery” as we all go home and see what shape the parents are in. (Well, we visit at other times too, but doesn’t everyone vacation where the parents live? Hard to go anywhere else, unless they are in good enough shape to meet you there.)

Here’s a virtual toast to all our dear older relatives!

Slugghuggs, jym. The next round is on me. Regarding the leaks, check the simple things first. Look underneath the sinks and check the fittings. Make sure that all of the joints are tightened and sealed properly. Replace faucets, if needed. Have the roof checked. It could be a solution as simple as having the gutters cleaned and the leaves cleared off of the roof seams.

I’m one of these weirdos who likes fixing and upgrading old stuff. When it comes to old folks, I’m kind of there, too. It’s what I used to do before I chose a life of purity and servitude…fine, servitude. Okay, I’m a *@#!! slave to the sluggettes and se

Got a call from D1 today. She advised that her med school choices would now have to consider D1-BF’s grad school plans as an engagement is increasingly likely. Does this mean D1 may finally be off our payroll and onto his?

Not sure if I should be happy or what.

I then asked if these two Type-A personalities have negotiated how they’d handle life if she got into “A” med school and he got into “B” grad school.

I believe Mrs p2n and I need several drinks.

How much are weddings these days? $600 or so?

You’re getting a Type A SIL? After reading so many tales of various SsFS?

Get on your knees man!

What’s an SsFS?

Son From Space, or the plural Sons From Space–all of whom need a type A wife btw.

Ah - a space cadet. I follow now.

No, this fellow is not that…in fact, it’s funny - D1 called the other day after I was poring over her admission details and tells me he frets over details and does lots of analysis much as I do - which makes me feel like he’ll take care of business. She felt like she was getting it from both sides - which means I can now relax. :)

p2n, many happy returns heading your way, assuming there’s happiness mixed in there with this awesome revelation? (CONGRATULATIONS!!!
)

sluggy, go easy on the move this weekend. (I’d say, “Hey, call if you need some help,” but I’m not that dumb.) No need to go easy on the wine.

jym, I can only send you empathy and a big helping of whatever would give you the most energy and strongest spirits. Many of us have aging parents who are failing in their abilities to manage everything now, you’re a good person for being so involved and caring.

A toast to everyone who needs it today!

Oh wait. I have to do this, just because.

Yeah, $600 should about do it, p2n.

For the reply cards going into the engraved invitations, that is.
