Exactly, the new black! I have two pairs of silver ballet flats. Love em! My policy is stock up on trendy things that you like well enough to wear when the trend is over and they disappear from the stores.

Wacky shoes = instant outfit, with 501s and a tee shirt.

And according to the NYT my Elvis Costello/aka revenge of the nerds glasses are back. Glad I held on to them.

Ah shoes. Hard topic. Size 5, wide (for a 5) and instep in the wrong place for ballet flats. Have found kids shoes, scandals and boots, that’s about all that works. For dressy occasions I wear character shoes, tan or black, because they come in my size. Heels vary by height. Not glamorous, but servicable.

Converse hi-tops: cute story about my son when he was 2. He didn’t then or ever have any interest in what he was wearing, other than to complain bitterly if he had an “itchy tag.”

My D, age 4, was doing some modeling for Polly Flinders (remember those CUTE smocked dresses?) and S, age 2, was along for the photo shoot. Somehow they invited him to be part of the fun. It was a “holiday” theme, and his job was to pretend to give a present to some girls. So they dressed him up in pants, suspenders, turtleneck, and RED Hi-top tennies. Very cute.

He fell in love with those shoes and had to have a pair. It’s the only “fashion” item he has ever loved, except for T-shirts with witty sayings!

D qualifies as “edgy” but its on the inside. She has no tattoos, piercing, hair dye, pasty white makeup or an overabundance of black clothing. She does have long dark hair with bangs, plastic black rimmed glasses, and ultra fair skin. And Kitty Shoes, with lots of different colors of paint on them (like just about all the clothes she owns…)

S also has black plastic glasses, but with Peter Frampton hair.

I browse through the fashion mags at the hair place…and read how totally “out” my Crocs are…and how I should be paying $500 or more for the shoe du jour (that fit in with Steve Martin’s “Cruel Shoes” gig from a while back). I do switch colors in the winter. Of course, I have other shoes in my closet 10+ yrs old that I do wear, as well. I also usually buy purses from Walmart or Target. I’m hoping I won’t get lead poisoning from them, nor they be victim of any other Chinese recall…
