Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

Martyr: Bloody mary, but with one’s own blood?

“It didn’t hurt a bit”

So sad that Davidson couldn’t pull it off this evening… Starting to think about what books to read while on Spring Break #2, starting next week. (this time, with D2, in Cancun)… I’m thinking I should start considering tequila virtual drinks now…

Wow, that game was close though for a long time. Poor D’son. Maybe next year?

Cancun, well that sounds pretty heavenly astromom. We’re not really “resort” type people, preferring to camp on the (frozen) shores of Lake Superior or in northern Minnesota on or off the Gunflint Trail - where the state bird is the black fly. But, that does sound so very nice to me - warm water, sun shine, assorted drinks.

Do they still say don’t drink the water? Well, if so, please don’t! haha

stumbling in from the angst on the other side of those swinging doors. Phew, I’m glad I’m in an off year… drinks all around…

LOL. I’ve been thinking about those friends & acquaintances with kids in that crucial end of March acceptance stage. So glad I’m in an off year too!

I’ll drink to the good news and commiserate with the not-so-good while waiting for son’s plane to LEAVE JFK, coming home on the last leg of the spring break Europe trip. It’s over an hour late and hasn’t taken off yet, according to Delta’s web site.

I might as well hang out here as at the airport bar. :)

love the imagery! Cheers!

mommusic – hope his plane took off! don’t you love that we’re all good here?

Set one up please, and a round for the house.

Just returned from a business trip to Chicago, return drive through thunder storms. Time to kick back and admire the umbrella in my single malt scotch. Thanks, barkeep.

aaaaah. So nice to be among friends. Mommusic, Godspeed to your son. To those awaiting news, cheers! and wishes for your students’ happiness.

A toast:

Fat packages and boatloads of fin aid for all those waiting by the mailslot, with or without marmots…

Ok, I’m slinking in feeling guilty in that I want to celebrate this… D applied for --and found out yesterday that she didn’t get-- a prestigious internship for the summer. She wasn’t expecting it,and her profs told her that the odds of a her getting it were VERY slim, since she’s just finishing her first year. It would have been AWESOME, but she’s got more years ahead to keep trying.

However, having her not get it means that it’s decided…she’ll come home for the summer, take a history course at the local community college to finish up her gen ed requirements. And, surprisingly, I’m SO HAPPY that this also alleviates some angst re: her bf, at least for this summer. Maybe next year they can both focus on getting internships in the same general vicinity…

So, a round for the house for D’s rejection – a good thing, this time! One more (last?) summer where I’ll get to have her around, at least occasionally!

Cheers, astrophysicsmom! Enjoy your time with her.

The “I so get it!” toast to astrophysicsmom.

[[My S did get his internship (9 hours away) and I am trying very hard to be happy for him.]]

I can so get it too! DS will be eventually joining the AF, so I know I want him hang closer to home, even if it is just a couple of weeks at a time…Now remind me next yr. this time after he comes home for spring break that I said this…Do we have anyone willing to repost this 1 yr from now…because I am sure that we have someone who will pull this post up in a yr and laugh…there’s always one wise a**…never mind, I already know who it will be…Bullet

pima, I think you should change your name to “PIHA” - p.i.HIS.a.

There, now, that’s been on my mind all day.

Spot update: Miss Spot (the Jack Russell) jumped into my dryer today and I had to fight off the strongest urge to turn it on and watch her run like a hamster on its wheel (or a ferret?). Luckily, she didn’t really like it in there very well and hopped right out again.

And here is some very wonderful news: my huge lilacs (they completely surround the back and side of my back yard) HAVE BUDS!!! I love my lilacs, which I have been tending for years now. They are now so tall that they can reach my 2nd storey windows. Oh, there is nothing like that sweet scent on a spring morning. I have both the ‘purple’ and the ‘white’ varieties. I LOVE THEM! My DD wore them in her hair for her first communion and she was so beautiful.

OK, back to the dishes.

Ahhhhhh. Lilacs. Something to dream about until the warmer weather comes and stays for a while.

“When lilacs last in the dooryard bloomed…” --Walt Whitman

Of course, that’s sad cause it’s about the assassination of Lincoln. But the lilacs do smell wonderful.

We have forsythia. Not so remarkable but a definite sign of spring. BIL in New Hampshire says they still have snow in the (shady) back yard! How depressing. :(

if the forsythia is blooming it’s time to prune the roses… and blessed be to all those who have lilacs. Spring does come around again. Is there a lilac-flavored drink?

Lilacs? Forsythia? ROSES??

I’m just glad to see the grass today under the melted snow-water. Mud season is in full swing, and so is my l00-lb. dog.

Is there a drink called “Paw Print”? I’d like to settle him down a bit.

one Paw Print here, please, with a Shedding-Dog chaser.

Shedding dog chaser, me too. My dog looks like an exploding teddy bear.
