Dark Shadows! remember the theme music?

oooooOOOOOOoooooOOOOOOOOooooo!

YES! that’s it!

Barnabas Collins.

Lying on the floor, watching Dark Shadows.

My first intimations of, well, of, well, um, boys?

If it’s shedding dogs you want, get a St. Bernard to bring you some brandy. ;)

I have a shedding St. Bernard in my garage right now! He’s on his way. :)

And, yeah. You guys ain’t seen nothing like the fur that comes off a St. Bernard in the spring. Hefty bags full.

Put the fur to a good use My college physics prof, a nice but absolutely absent-minded lady, had several sweaters made out of her Collie’s fur. Knitting was her big hobby.

My Shepherd has not started shedding. Not yet. He usualy does it in July.

I loved Barnabus, and Angelique, and Quentin! I seem to remember remember there was a movie . . .

embarrassed confession: Dark Shadows scared me.

You are a sensitive soul SBmom. But, more to the point, you are lots younger than me and Mootie and maybe georgiamom so you were a wee babe and we were susceptible young girls:).

And can someone make me some slippers out of that dog hair please? My old sheepskin ones are down to leather.

nice to have you back Alu … we just have cats here, but they shed too!

Welcome back Alu. And yes, I watched All My Children (and still do on occasion). I hate to admit this, but I’ve been watching the ABC soaps since I was about 10 years old - (not on a daily basis, of course - but now and then, just to catch up). In fact, watching those soaps was a dorm activity back when I was in college…lol.

AMC watcher here as well. I was a sophomore in high school when it started and have literally watched since day one. It was very popular in the dorms and fraternity houses in college (as was Lancelot Link, Secret Chimp). I’ve found I can watch a couple of times a year and keep up, especially with the online summaries.

My grandma babysat me a lot and started me on As the World Turns when I was but a wee babe. I knew I could get away with stuff when I heard that music start.

My sister and I would run home from the bus stop to catch Dark Shadows. The rule was no talking except during commercials.
Welcome back Alu.

over30, I bet I could still hum the full ATWT original tune. The current one - not so much. What were they thinking?

We carded (as in card wool) a samoyed’s fur and my kids knitted slippers with the fur about 8 or 9 years ago. Very soft, but a funny whitish/brownish/ugli=ish which no one was very proud of . Did the dyed-in-grape-Koolaid thing and everyone was much happier with their purple slippers.

I remember watching Dark Shadows now and again at my friend’s house since we didn’t have a tv (until I was 19 - my dad was an absent minded prof-type and just couldn’t have been less interested). That was a freaky show. Is that Barnabas guy still alive? (what is/was his real name?)

I found this about Barnabas:
JONATHAN FRID TO JOIN DARK SHADOWS RESURRECTED EVENT -
THIS SUMMER IN BURBANK, CALIFORNIA
The Dark Shadows Festival Presents DARK SHADOWS RESURRECTED, to be held the weekend of July 18, 19 & 20, 2008, at the Burbank Airport Marriott Hotel & Convention Center, 2500 Hollywood Way, Burbank, CA 91505-1019.

Looks like he’s still with us.

THAT’s it! Jonathan Frid!! He must be REALLY scary looking now! But, I’m with SBmom…Dark Shadows was way too scary for me, too. But when the question was asked, I was able to hum it as I read SBmom’s rendition!!!

Actually I think it scarred me for life…I’ve never been into any vampire fiction stuff—no thanks to Anne Rice, and my daughter game me a copy of the book, “I am Legend” when the movie came out. It didn’t do too much for me. When she said she liked the book better than the movie, I knew not to bother to watch it!

Ooohhh, I’m another of the oldie goldies around here. I loved Dark Shadows and Barnabas Collins! I also watched All my Kiddies (as we called it) in college-- yes LIMomof2-- it was a dorm activity for us too! On Sunday night we watched The Prisoner with Patrick McGoohan.

Total change of subject. Just came back from the Community Service Awards Black tie dinner where DS was one of the student honorees. When older s was an honoree, he got his picture taken with Hank Aaron. Tonight, younger s got his picture taken with Andrew Young!! It was really great. One of the big honorees was Judge Griffin Bell (Attorney General under Carter). He (at 89) talked a lot about his role in the desegregation of the south. It was fascinating, especially on the eve of the 40th anniversary of MLK’s assassination. Quite an evening…
OK back to soap operas.

Just back from the gym – saw a great T-shirt w/ “Time flies when you’re having rum” on the front. Sounds good to me – although maybe not 'til a little later in the day!

Hey jym626,
Major kudos to your S#2! Coincidentally, last evening we also attended a Volunteer Awards dinner at the nursing home and healthcare facility where S#'s 2 & 3 volunteer weekly. Much to their surprise, at the reception preceding the dinner the Director of Volunteers introduced them to the on-staff Rabbi. The Rabbi said to them, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, and it will be my pleasure to introduce you as this year’s winners of the Junior Volunteer of the Year Awards.” They were shocked. The Director of Volunteers and I were also shocked, because this was supposed to have been a surprise! The Rabbi was chagrined! They didn’t get to meet Hank Aaron or Andrew Young, but they did get a beautifully framed certificate. LOL
